Default Hood Release broken on my C3, need help

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone here has ever had a problem with their hood release cable snapping. E.g. Is there any way to pop the hood without taking the front end off. The car is a 1969 corvette with a 1973 front end.

Default release

Actually, Chevy thought of this. There's s small access port on the drivers side in the windshield bay to give you access to the hinge. The hinge has a tab you can push against to release the latch. The cable normally pulls from the bottom, but you'll be pushing at the top. All the catalogs sell a special rod for this, but a long push bar should work. Good Luck!

Had the same problem on my 79. Not sure if it will be same on yours. There should be two holes, one on either side wear the windshield wipers are. There is a plastic insert in it to prevent debris from getting in. Just remove the plastic insert, and with a screwdriver or your fingers (if they are long) you can push down on each hood release mechanism. Hope it helps, but I'm sure it is not necessary to remove the front clip.
(Edit: to slow in the response)

Wow. I'm amazed that you guys knew that. Seems like an extremely obscure problem to me. I'll take a look after work today

This probably doesn't need saying, but I gotta say I'm learning more about my '71 just by following this forum than I would have ever imagined.

I had the same thing happen to me on my "76" I had to jack the front of the car up and go through the bottom up to release the hood.

Actually, it happens all the time. Once every few weeks there is a question about this. Other ones are: what tire size fits, fixing brakes that failed, what carb is best, problem with mother-in-law, etc.

We should find a forum and post solutions to common problems there...
