Default Window Indexing in the Cold Weather

With very cold snaps hitting many parts of the US, I thought I would let everyone know of a possible complication the cold weather could cause and how to fix it.

As you know, indesing windows were added to the C6 to help with areodynamics and wind noise. But, what happens when your window are frozen and the window won't go down when you try to enter the car???

First, take something like a credit card and run it along the base of the window to break the ice seal along the weather stripping. After this, you will be able to open the window/car, but the window does not go all the way back up. You need to reset the window indexing. This same thing happens if you loose all power to the car.

Very simple to take car of. Get in your car, close the door, and start it. Lower the window all the way down and continue to hold the down button for 5 seconds after the window is already down. Next, raise the window all the way up and hold the button for 5 seconds after the window has stopped. After 5 seconds, let go and then push and hold the button for the up position for another 5 seconds and the indexing is reset.

This procedure is explained in your Owners Manual on page 2-17.

I hope this helps any of our Cold Weather Drivers out there!!!

Thanks Dave. Good information to have without having to hunt for it in the manual. The part about sliding the credit card along the base of the window is especially helpful. Only got down to 13 last night here and my car's in a carport, not a heated garage.

They didn't do a background check on you to make sure your baby had proper housing?

We actually initialized a profiling program with the Office of Homeland Security, but the a small group of Corvette owners in rural Maine got the program shut down with assistance of the ACLU!

Well, I'm doing a little better than I did with my C2. It didn't even have a carport. C4 & first C6 did, though.

Great information. I'm adding it to my 20 page document on the C6 hints. This morning it was in the single digits in Maryland.

Thanks Dave! I had to learn the hard way. Even though, the indexing returned to normal after lowering the window completely and then back up once again. When I turned off the car, the window indexed normally.

I was just outside and it's a balmy 13 degrees out! I thought I would bump this up one more time for those who may have missed it.
