Huntsville, AL - Toys for Tots
2TONE82 is organizing a toy drive for the Toys For Tots program on Saturday December, 11th. Here are the details:
Here are the final (hopefully) details of our cruise/show benefiting the Toys for Tot's.
Date: Saturday, December the 11th
Time: 10:00 to 1:00
Place: Meet in Research Park on Odyssey Drive
Please bring a new, unwrapped toy as a donation to the local Toys for Tot's program.
The details:
As luck would have it, Farmers Insurance Group is helping man the donation boxes with the Marines at most of the area Wal-Marts on December 11th. We decided to capitalize on this event with a short cruise that ends with a car show at a local Wal-Mart...but who parks a Corvette at Wal-mart, right? No worries, I've contacted the Branch Manager of the First American Bank in front of the Wal-Mart on University/Hwy 72 (she’s the proud owner of a 50th Anniversary vert by the way) and have secured exclusive use of their parking lot for our car show…thanks Dawn! Gunny Lawrence, the Toy’s for Tot’s coordinator has secured some media coverage as well, inviting the public to donate a toy and check out our rides. To date we have several cars planning to attend, ranging from a mid-year to a C6...someone please invite a straight axel car!
We will meet at Odyssey Drive at 10:00 am, departing from there around 10:15 ~ 10:30. We will drive one of the two cruise routes depicted on the attached map.....more on that in a moment. We will arrive at the bank Parking lot and deliver our toys. Around noon the Marines will select a best of show award and I'll collect votes for some other awards...still firming those categories up; oldest car, newest car (have to check the VIN#s on some C6s), high mileage, etc. By the way, if anyone would like to sponsor one of the above awards by purchasing a gift certificate from a local restaurant or something just let me know. Several of us are members of The Corvette Forum (www.corvetteforum.com) and we happen to have a moderator who resides locally; he’s offered up some pens and a couple of t-shirts…thanks Eric!
Attached is a map in .jpg format of the proposed cruise routs; one is very direct, the other a little more out of the way, neither of which is very long. I did a recon of both routes today and found no problems. Several of us have met at the Odyssey drive location as a starting point for past events. Odyssey Drive is a wide street, ending in a cul-de-sac and can easily accommodate thirty to forty cars. The short route is depicted in red on the attached map, the longer route in blue. The benefit of the longer route is that it takes us north on Research Park Blvd for a short distance so we can stretch our legs somewhat.
Please let me know vie email which route you prefer, red or blue. I'll let everyone know the consensus with one final email reminder next week. Also let me know if you have problems receiving/opening the attachments. I can hang them on a website if need be.
The other attachment is a flyer for the event. The single page contains three flyers that you can print off, cut into thirds and keep in your car should you see someone out in their Corvette that you’d like to invite…the more cars the more toys the more fun we’ll have!
As always, feel free to forward/circulate this to other Corvette owners in your clubs.

Checked the long range weather forecast this morning, Saturday the 11th shows a high of 53, partly cloudy and 0% chance of rain!
Hey, if Boston can win the series we can pull off an event without the "R" word...

HammerDown...that's cool! I've heard from a couple of other straight axle owners and told them that it was fine if they didn't want to do the cruise part, rather just meet us at the bank parking lot. Of course the cruise route is rather short. We should arrive at the bnak NLT 11:00.
ChiefDave and Shanman...I've got to check out the new Hooters...saw the new "Palm Trees" and "Beach" area from the road today - nice touch...it's rained enough we could have our own beach there!

ShanMan14,
I just saw the Toys for Tots Huntsville, AL event for this weekend. Sounds like a good time. I have a 2005 MagRed/Cashmere 6sp VIN 3419 and if the weather is good I would like to join in. What else do you need from me before hand.

Had lunch there today Nice place! Saw a nice CE Coupe, and a sweet Red C4 today too. Lots of waves here and I am fealing the love! Great seeing the sun and fellow happy Vette owners.
