Bob,

Are those the stock pulley's painted, or are they aftermarket unit's?

Thanks,
Jeff
those are painted...washed, hit with brake clean, sanded, brake clean and then painted with ACE hardware "chineese ace red" spray paint

[IMG][/IMG]

budman thks....looking back i should have done two threads, one for the 700r4 "build' and one for the "Steeroids install"...oh well too late now....

You are doing everything I hope to do when the budget allows. Great work; I know the satisfaction you must have, making your Vette better than it was originally!

Default distributor rebuild....lets add more alligators to the swamp

well heres the rebuild on the distributor.........

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

well no instructions in the kit....... the mechanism in the distributor that the weights swing on i couldn't physically move when i disassembled it... lots of brake clean and it swings freely now.... unfortunatlely i didn't take any picture/notes of how the weights were assembled on the distributor...so did i put them back on correctly? i think i did based on looking at the ones i took off but i wouldn't mind a confirmation post....

ok nightly report....finished buffing heat shield and it and carb is installed, got the ok on Dist rebuild..i did it right....put teflon tape on water/vacuum fittings they are done....Jr finished drilling out the trans crossmember bolt he broke in the frame, luckily at the end the bit grabbed the bolt and spun it out of the threads...we were lucky....tomorrow nights work is the install of: the spring return for carb, thermostat neck... and dist vaccum hose, and gas line...also hopefully i get the new power steering pump pulley to replace the one that i ruined.....this staying up till midnight each night is slowly killing me.....but i see the light at the end of the tunnel and its not a train...

I believe you have the weights either backwards or upsidedown. The distributor(in the pic)spins clockwise and when it does it throws the dogear shaped weight(not pointy weight)OUT. It can't work this way the way they are pictured. I'm 99.99999999999999999999999% sure they are not installed right.

that was my original fear........ i didn't take notes and i missed taking the picture of the old weights....i did put the weights down as i took them off in the same position and thats how they came off....the weights are some what rounded on one side and flat on the other. the rounded side is down and the flat side is up.... any body have any pictures of theres? does any one know of a reference site thks bob

Last edit : i'm ok

http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/43300/

http://www.customclassictrucks.com/howto/29459/

pontiacs rotate differently so there weights are different

It is looking good! I told you that zero clearance material was great! I also installed it same locations as you--lower front firewall splash shield area, under the driver/passenger floorpan, and added some to the front of the trans tunnel area--BIG improvement in heat reduction. Easy install too. Thanks to the forum members that told me about it!

oh crap, not that "permanent record again" thing again....if it looked like chain links ... i would look look like "Marley" from Scrooge....

any way... 4 hours into it .....break time this is where we are

zero clearance install done definitely wear gloves when you cut this. the foil is like little razor blades.... all new vacuum hoses run to head light switch, also everything off of front of engine...my son is coaching a basketball game when he gets back we put it in...

Default Done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well started in earnest at 4:15 and at 7:00 we declared victory.....no real problems other then its a PITA......the motor mounts were a bear to line up....think maybe i should have rethought having them on the engine...wound up loosening them on the engine to get them in place then retorquing them....the trans crossmember went in ok...... had to drill one of the alignment holes on the top bolt that goes through the crossmember to make it alittle bigger....the trans is way too close to the pass side....so i'm thinking i need to reloosen all the motor mounts and try shifting it....... ugh.......... i'm beat....so to recap we started at 9:30 -10:00 took a break at 2:45-4:15 and 7:00 we were all bolted in ...did i mention that i'm beat?

its going in...

[IMG][/IMG]

i hate motor mount club member

Bob...You sir, are an inspiration to all of us. It is truly incredible to watch your project unfold. And you started on Nov 9th! I hope that I'm " seriously in over my head " as much as you someday. Tons of thanks for providing the pics of your project. I look forward to seeing more.
