Default Has anyone experienced or heard of C6 rear end (housings) breaking, etc.?

I was wondering if anyone has heard of this or seen this on the new C6 cars - I understand one took a dive at E-Town last week (?) and there was another one mentioned here a while back

What have you seen or heard - TIA

It is basically the same design as the C5 unit, and they pretty much only break during drag racing with super-sticky tires. I don't know of any breaks due to normal, or even heavy use, on street tires. I have a friend at the Getrag plant, and he fills me in occasionally.

Any info on the new C6 ZO6's clutch/differential/transaxle?
I hope that GM will include significant drive train upgrades to handle the increased power.

All things considered overall, they didn't/don't break much at all actually.
High power output and sticky tires will potentially cause breakage eventually if not treated just right.

I have only heard of one C4 rear end cracking (A D44 w/ the car launching on slicks)

I know of two definates and maybe another here on the forum cracking in a C6

The old D44's in C4's were virtually indesructable
Just curious how mnay C6's we know of that have indeed broken a rear

Thanks

I have only had 1 C5 rear break. It was in Leighton Reese's car and I can't remeber but it could have been at Mid Ohio. There was a dip in the track that he was not letting up in and well at 140+ with wheel slippage and then traction it finally let loose. It shattered the pinion which then destroyed the housing. It was a stock rear though that we put a bigger gear in. He has been running our 8 clutch race rear since and has had no problems.
