Default QTP Header & VnM Backbone Weight Comparsion to Stock

Well, I finished weighing all the parts prior to installation. Here is how they come out:

Stock Tunnel Plate: 6.2 lbs
VnM Tunnel Plate: 12.7 lbs

Difference in tunnel plate weight: +6.5 lbs

Stock H Pipe: 40.6 lbs
Stock left exhaust Manifold: 16.1 lbs
Stock right exhaust Manifold: 15.8 lbs
Total weight of stock system: 72.5 lbs

RT "X" Pipe: 12.0 lbs
RT Left Cat: 5.8 lbs
RT right Cat: 5.7 lbs
Left QTP Header: 10.9 lbs
Right QTP Header: 11.0 lbs
Total QTP System Weight: 45.4 lbs

Difference in exhaust weight: -27.0 lbs

Total difference in car weight going from stock to VnM Tunnel Plate and stock exhaust to QTP Headers:

-20.5 lbs

All these weights were measured on a very accurate scale we have here at work. Hope you find the information useful.

Good info. Folks should note that this is for a 2002, correct? Our cast exhaust manifolds and inclusion of pup cats on the h-pipe makes these weights most relevant to those with this particular setup. Different models without pup cats and with SS manifolds may have lighter stock exhaust components.

Thanks for posting this.

Yes, thanks, I should have noted the year of the car (2002).

Hey Vettenuts, are you installing the headers and tunnel plate this weekend? Don't for get to take pics and post the SOTP performance difference you feel with both. I'm considering the Tri-y's myself and might as well do the tunnel plate at the same time. PS are you doing the headers in your garage or do you have access to a lift?

Does anyone know how much the Kooks header and hi flow cats it comes with weigh? I'd love to see a comparo of the two. I'm assuming they weigh about the same since they are both stainless steel. BTW, why is the stock H-Pipe so heavy???

Do a search. I think Bquicksilver did a weight comparison some time back. The stock H pipe has four cats, the beefy clamps to the manifolds and has to be warranteed by GM for 50K miles.
