Default MN6 Transmission problem VINs.

This was recently posted on the net by Rick Conti at www.corvetteconti.com , so I assume it is now public knowledge.

These are the vehicles that are affected by the MN6 transmission problem. Some of these were fixed at the factory, but all cars in this group should be checked by your dealer.

Before we cause a panic (I have a car on that list) what is meant by "affected" and who is saying the cars should be checked out by a dealer?? GM?? Mine seems to be fine, and I would hate to let the dealer start monkeying with it. And, I doubt they would even look at it based on me telling them I am on some internet list.

From the information my dealer gave me, each dealer will have a list of any cars they sold or have in stock that might have the 5th gear problem. (Based on the above list of VINs). They have a series of simple tests they will perform to see if 5th gear exhibits any of the abnormal movement described in the service bulletin. If not, they don't have to do anything further. If 5th gear does show abnormal movement, it's my understanding they will be asked to put in a completely new transmission. This is a list of cars that should be checked because they MAY be affected, not a list of cars that necessarily have defective transmissions.

My car is on the list too but I haven't received it yet. It was produced on 10-1 and I still haven't received it. Is the reason for the delay in shipping due to the fact that they replaced the transmission? Hopefully that is the case.

that is probably a good guess.....mine came off the line on 10/5 and was released AFTER it was inspected. Luckily mine didn't have a problem.

Hang in there...it is much better to have it replaced at the plant by mechanics that work on the car than at the dealer where there would probably be a learning curve.

Thanks for doing that. I thought of putting them in numerical order to make it easier to read, but just didn't have the time to do it.

Default Mine Is Not On The List But Has The Problem!

Mine is #055103491 which is NOT on the list. It has a VERY noticable fore/aft movement in 5th gear only!

Time to go back to the dealer with it. Maybe they are just guessing which vins to recall and check.

Guess, in this case it was best to snag #1893 early, or was it?.

I am number 0476.
Guess being "borne" early was not such a bad thing?

I deliberately didn't mention Rick because other dealers had seemed a bit hesitant to have their names associated with the VINs being published. He was, in fact, the first to publish the list although my dealer sent me the entire TSB last week.
