Default I'd say this pretty much proves 7.0L

This came from LS1tech. But, I think it shows pretty clearlysome things that should help settle some of the discussions...

Here's a pic of the top of the motor:

Look at the big runners and the 90mm TB. This is the same setup that was on the GTO show car.

This is the head casting number:

You can also see the big exhaust port. You can't see in this pic, but its a D-port.

This is a knock sensor in the side of the block:

This is what makes me think that this must be a production Gen 4 block. The exhaust ports can also be seen.

very impressive and reassuring, but to play devils advocate, that is a race car, and the c5r has been using the 7L engine for a few years now. Just because a race car has the engine doesnt mean that the production car will get it as well. I have my fingers crossed still.

Except, that isn't a C5R motor.

I didnt say that it was a c5r motor, i said that the c5r has been using a 7L engine for a few years, not that exact one. my main point was that not everything that you see in the race cars will hit the street cars as well. i am firm in believing that the Z will have a 7L engine.

It does prove that LG was right back in March when he said that they are running a de-stroked engine. 4.120 bore and a 3.25 stroke.
Still a 5.7 liter with a lot of rpms not unlike the 302 of the late 60s.

Good information. I'm sure this will be a marketing/PR factor when the Z06 is released. They can say it's race proven. I wonder how much of the rest of the car is new Z06?

Nice catch indeed. Can someone tell me what is this assembly?

It's on the C6 TB as well.

That is correct, there was an article in Car and Driver or Road & Track where they were discussing the CTS-V program. Lots of work done to those cars incliuding trimming pinch welds, moving engine back (as much as rules allow), moving the driver, etc.. getting the car as low as possible with a better weiight distribution.

But they also mentioned using the the 7L C5R block, and is destroked to get 5.7 and rev much higher than the stock engine. It does use the factory ECM as well....

Doesn't, necessarily, prove that there will be a 7.0L engine... Just shows that they can get a 7.0 L motor out of that block. At Petit someone asked DOug Fehan how much horsepower they get out the the 7.0L C5R engine.. His answer, with restrictors ..about 600, unrestricted, about 900.....

If you are talking about the round silver piece it is the motor that turns the plate in the TB.

How is everyone sure that this is a Z06 motor? It did come out of a CTS-V.

Throttle servo, the component that positions the throttle plate based on the input from the driver to the computer. "Drive by wire" came out on the C5 in 1997.

I don't see any reason why they'd cast that on a race motor. Who would care? If they have it on there it's for a reason and that must be for production right?

Race shops usually don't take the time to do stuff like that. Sharpee, paint, scrib, would be the norm there, and that would be just to tell the difference between same parts. Head 1, 2, 3, Block 1, 2, 3 etc. I don't think they'd need to know what size motor they were running, that would be a given.
