Eastwood has a lot of good stuff. I have polished a ton of parts for my motorcycle. It is a very, very dirty job but could get the parts sparkling. In fact, when the parts I polished were held next to identical chrome parts, in almost all cases, people who were asked to pick which parts were the chromes one would pick the pieces that I polished as the chrome!! Very cool. HOWEVER.....keeping them that way is a totally different story. Like polishing rims all the time? Then go for it. The only other alternative was to find some kind of polish protector. I tried pretty much everything on the market (including the products mentioned in this post above). They all worked fine but they also all had one thing very much in common with each other. they ALL dulled the finish to an extent. In fact, that is likely a strong contributing factor to the C6 polished wheels lack of luster. I do agree that they could have done a little better on the initial polish. When I look at the C6 rims sitting next to the C5, the C5 actually looks like chrome. Point being, if you plan on polishing your wheels to that nice chrome-looking finish, plan on doing some serious maintenance to keep them looking that way. The clear coat is on there for a reason. My $.02

I live in Phoenix as well-- when my C6 comes in I will consider doing exactly what you did.
Your wheels look great. Thanks for the info.

I like the polished aluminum look as well. The re-polish looks great! Wish I could find someone in the San Antonio area who does that kind of work...

Yes, it wil be more maintenance, I have had polished wheels before. The reason I decided to go for it again is that I think these will be easy to maintain because of the design of the wheel. Lots of flat smooth surfaces. I've had other polished wheels that had rivets and crevices in the design that were a real PITA to polish. I usually go over them with Met-All and them strip the polish with flour and a towel. The guy at Blanchard told me that corn starch works better, I am going to try that next time.
Maybe I am missing something here, but why not have them clear coated again to protect the new finish?

Should be easier to maintain at that point...

Thanks!

I've always used aircraft stipper to remove those thick coats of clear on my rims. the coating just falls off. It's a bit messy but does a nice job. I think the stripper cost's somewhere around $60.00 and a little elbow grease with small polisher can get them rims like chrome.

The only thing i dont like is having to repolish them. Did they apply another clear over those rims once they polished them?

Not even that much. You can get it at Autozone in a spray can for $5.00. Works like a charm. Literally called Airplane Stripper.

Default Repolished polished wheels

Your repolished wheels look very good. Someone mentioned an exchange program or something to that effect whereby for $700 you could get chromed wheels that match the original C6 wheels. What vendor provides this service? I just took delivery on my C6 last Monday and am not all that happy with the so called highly polished wheels. Any help on this $700 deal would be most appreciated.

Ok, here is another dumb question. Is polishing rims a chemical process or machining? I'm under the impression they use a chemical to strip the paint or clearcoat and them buff with a machine to get a high sheen.

Rick,

Yes, that's pretty much the sum of it. Strip any pre-existing finish, e.g. paint, etc with a chemical process and then buff/polish the stripped wheel with a mechanical buffer.
