Default Bad News from BG

I WAS scheduled to take NCM delivery of my black/ebony MN6 Z51 on 10/13. Moments ago, I was contacted by the museum and informed that shipping has been stopped on all MN6 vehicles due to an apparent internal problem in the transmission. My understanding is that the line has been shut doen due to this problem. I heard that the first truck of new trannys will not arrive until probably Friday, at which time the vehicles on the line will have the tranny replaced. Vehacles already produced will then have their MN6 replaced.

If you have an MN6 vehicle that has just recently been built (but not shipped), it may be that you will not get it as soon as you thought. If you are scheduled for NCM delivery of an MN6 vehicle in the coming weeks or days, you will likely be contacted by the museum.

I assume the base suspension cars with the M6 are not affected? By that I mean the line might be stopped but current vehicles already produced with the M6 are fine?

My car was built on 9/28, Vin #4267. It cannot be shipped or delivered until the apparent problem is rectified. Based upon my conversation, it appears the only determining factor is if your vehicle is an MN6 car. If it is and the vehicle has not been shipped, it will not be shipped until the problem is fixed.

As disappointed as I am to hear this...my car was scheduled for a 10/7 build...I'd rather have a one week delay now than have to deal with transmission problems later on. The only problem I have seen reported on this board was an ocassional popping out of sixth gear.

Does anyone know what the actual problem is? Will a TSB or recall be issued?

Thanks for the info. No wonder my car which was built on 10-1 Vin #4415 with a 6spd still hasn't arrived at Allied. Not happy with the news but at least I know the reason for the delay.

So! At last we have an explanation for the delays and it isn't Allied! With my VIN 4949, my car is on the line this morning as it was shut down! Just hope that mine isn't the one that made the "loud POP!"

Sheeesh! What next?

OK, somebody edubacate me here. Most of the time, I hear people refer to the 6 speed in the base suspension C6 as "M6" and the 6 speed in the Z51 C6 as "MN6". Is this correct or are people just interchanging the two? Is it only the Z51 6 speed tranny affected in this stoppage or is the base 6 speed also affected?

Thanks,
Mike

Wow, mine was over at Allied's lot already and they stopped it from loading. VIN 4001 built on 9/27. That explains the hold. Now they have to take it BACK to the plant and have this done.. Thanksgiving wasn't exactly my target date

Default Be realistic friends!

There is no way the first new 'vettes will NOT have problems. All of you should hope they are caught before you take delivery. The old adage, "Never buy the first run of a new model remains true". GOOD LUCK to all of you!

This is what I am talking about it seems that the 6 spds. on these corvettes always have some issues or more issues than an automatic. Not to start a war here between the two but I will stick with my original idea and get the automatic.

If they stopped the line for the MN6's will they then only be producing A4's till they get the new tranny's?

Default Mikey you have the wrong guy!

I have never been on this Web and the last and only Corvette I ever owned was a 1965 White convertible with white leather and a 300 Hp 327 and I owned it in 1965. I have owned 911s and M3s with a few "Z"s thrown in but this C6 is something in which I am interested. But no matter where you buy the car the old adage of which I spoke is still true. Like it or not. Your headaches have already started!

Ayyyy! This will be my fourth postponement. Frustrating, but I'm happy the problem was discovered BEFORE the build date.

Wow... does this mean that the entire 4000-5000 range of VIN numbers is sitting on the lot in Bowling Green? I would assume that maybe half? of these cars are automatics and therefore aren't affected?

Geesh. That's 500 cars to be reworked? Wow. Now we just need somebody to find out what the problem is and whether anybody in the 1000-3999 range has had that problem. Only thing I've heard on the forums is a intemittent popping out of 6th gear and a SES light coming on.

Regarding the above thread and reply's:

Does anyone have any CONCRETE information, with details, confirming this alleged problem with the six (6) speed manual transmission?

Most in this thread have obviously got one ordered. Why do you wish to add to their anguish? If no one bought the first of a new model, there wouldn't be a second year model. Try to be a little more considerate of their feelings.

For all the dooms dayers, it is the very same MN6 six speed manual that went into the C5. SHEESH what whiners.

The Z51 gets the same trans as the C5's Z06 and it is called a MN12 with the different (lower) gear ratios.

This is a supplier problem. Get over it dooms dayers

The difference between the 6 spd. in the Z-51 package and the 6 spd without the Z-51 is the transmission ratios are different like in the Z-06 is different than the C-5. The Corvette that doesn't have the Z-51 package will have different gears / ratios in the transmission. The Z-51 transmission gives it more umph.
