Of course, I could have always resorted to reading the owner's manual and found out there's an emergency door opener located somewhere in the trunk that would have let in enough light for me to find that hood latch.

Story also makes it sound like the C6 only comes with a manual tranny. Maybe someone dumb enough to ignore the warning beeps and message shouldn't be driving a manual tranny.

I have another question: if you can open the door with the cable accessed from inside the back, how does that work with the indexing window that has to roll down first, when the battery is dead??

I've decided to forego any valet parking for at least a year or two for this reason

The manual cable drops the window enough to pop the door open.

Any time battery power is lost, the window must be re-indexed by holding the power window stalled in the up position for several seconds, then repeat the proceedure.

Default This confirms it.

Not only will I jog everyday, but while waiting for my Black Z51 coupe to arrive, will practice leaving my Z06 in reverse. To develop the habit.

No kidding. Or leave an instruction sheet with the steps required to turn off the car. Assuming the valet can read.

They had a hard enough time with the parking brake on my C4 during emissions inspections (releasing the C4's parking brake is not something you can figure out unless somebody shows it to you).

Thanks for the article. It was a great way to answer my question of why a system that was smart enough to flash the Start button light, try to keep you locked in the car, then obnoxiously beep the horn in an effort to make you remember to shift into reverse --Is programmed to drain its own battery to death rather than simply turn off the equipment: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) rules require it!

As someone who deals with the Code of Federal Regulations on a daily basis, this does not surprise me in the least. They're from the Government. There here to help.

Typical for most of us men isn't it.....
