C6 owners & tire pressure readings
Fellow owners: I'm getting a 2lb. discrepancy between the DIC tire pressure readings and the ones I'm getting when I check the tires with my tire pressure gauge. The DIC reads 2lbs. lower in pressure. Anybody else getting a discrepancy? Thanks -

Yes, I'm seeing the same thing. When I measure them cold, I get 30 lbs, but when I first start driving, I'm seeing 28 lbs on the DIC.

I have the digital tire gauge from Tire Rack that measures in .5 increments. All 4 set to 30 with gugue and I get readings of Front R 29 L 30 and Rear R 30 L 29.

I'm getting the same thing. Sometimes the fronts are the same and the rears are off by 1 pound. Other times both the fronts and rears are off by a pound. I have yet to see them all read the same.

So I guess we can assume that the DIC reading is incorrect. I'm going to set the tire pressure according to my tire gauge and leave it at that for now. Thanks

C5's did the same thing. Not to mention that four tires set the same registered four different pressures on the DIC at first but then eventually evened out to the same all around. Very odd.

I use the Accu-rite tire guage. Guaranteed to be +/- (I think) 1 percent. Digital guages are not what professionals use...there is too much of a variable when the batteries start to go...which is right after you put them in. Also, I thiink the DIC should be used only to see if there is a large variance between the tires, not for setting air pressure.

I use the digital guage in my air compressor pump. I just set the desired pressure (30), let the compressor go, and when it shuts off, both the compressor and the DIC say 30 for each tire. No problem here.

The DIC reading has been within a pound of the external pressure gauge we use. We use a mid-tier Longacre Racing tire pressure gauge on the street cars ($45). It is about 2.5" round and is an analog unit.
Are the sensors in the C6 of the +/- 0.5 psi type? (there is an 0.1 psi resolution sensor but it is more expensive). If they are the 0.5 psi resolution units, it is going to be hard to get more correlation than 1 psi with the DIC assuming you have a pretty high quality external tire pressure gauge.

I have been getting a warning on the DIC that the left rear tire is low. (Annoying as hell) The DIC indicates 21 lbs but, check with gauge reads 31 lbs. Once tires warm up after driving a few miles, no more warning light but DIC still shows significant variation from other tire pressures. All three other tires read 31 with the guage, so I know it is OK. Time for sensor replacement? Is this a dealer fix or will they send it off to a tire shop?

Use a good gauge to set the 30 lbs cold. Use the TPMS system only to let you know when one tire has experienced a problem and is significantly lower than the others. Also, elevation makes the reading on the TPMS read low.

My TPMS reading is the same as my pressure guages.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check with a local tire shop (don't trust the dealer). I always go by the gauge and would just ignore the DIC "alert" if it wasn't so persistant and annoying.

Just because of what you are experiencing I bought a Longacre tire gage. 0 to 60 psi in .5 psi increments, 2.5 inch display, oil filled and swivel filling end. I can probably get to within .1 psi or better when filling the tires. The DIC and the pressure gage are now right on the money.

Like cclive, you live at high elevation (your avatar shows Littleton, CO). Just like he said, owners that live at high elevation have reported that the DIC always reads lower than when they set and check their pressures with a good tire pressure gauge.
cclive lives in Utah, and other forum members that live up at 6,000 or more feet in Summit County, CO or other high elevation areas say they see the DIC reported pressures are always 3 to 4 psi less than their gauge.
