Ultra Embarrising Upset!
Ok guys. I need some advice. I have a 02 Z06 with LG long tubes and a Blackwing filter and CCW 3 piece wheels 18X11.5 with 335s on the back. Other then that stock. I just got my *** handed to me by a mid to late 80's model Ford Tarus SHO. I'm boiling the tires through 3rd trying to keep up. I don't think he's spinning as hard as me cause he's got huge drag radials on the front. It looks like those civics you see at the strip. Believe you me, this thing pulls HARD!!! So what do I need to do to beat him? I would just ignore it, but he works with me. Hence my delema.

I know this is hard to do, but my advice is to ignore him. There will always be a faster car out gunning. We get into these pissing contests all the time and what do they prove?
Take the high road and leave it alone.

Ask him how much work he has wasted in that Piece of Crap and you will proably laugh! Let me share something my dad told me when I purchased my first sports car!
1. There is always something faster than you
2. Theres is always soemthing fast than you that is uglier(SP) too.
3. Pick your battles carefully, you just might get smoked!

its a sad day huh
But it could have been worse...
It could have been a neon...
there are many streetable 4's and 6's out there that run consistant 10's.

If you are boiling the hides through third gear the first thing I would do is invest in some traction. Heads and cam will work wonders with your headers. If this were a random encounter I would probably ignore it, but this is a friend/co-worker. This sounds like a fun challenge and this kind of comradere is what improves the breed. Get to work on your car and beat him, you will enjoy the results to your car and the victory over your friend. He has to be near the limit of his potential and you have lots to exploit with your car...
Let us know what he has done to make his car fast and the results of your efforts to beat him...

PS How stupid do DR's look on the front of a SHO?

You allready said what the problem was... boiling the tires through third. Take him to the track, bolt on some ET streets or drag radials and then see how it goes.

Its already been said, there will be faster cars out there but too many that are as a Vette. I guess you could sell Vette and get yourself a Taurse SHO , now thats a real chick magnet...

Always something faster than you... doesn't mean it has to be prettier tho
Heads and cam being installed currently!

With all of the mods in the world, not getting traction will lose a race every time, mostly to an inferior car. I can attest to someone who has many, many mods yet I believe the laws of diminishing returns applies to me and in your case too. Rear wheel drive is great for burnouts, but launch??? I simply cannot get traction off the line in a drag race. I need to feather it and then punch it and hope my low-midrange is ample enough to overcome the disadvantage at the line. Street slicks are the only alternative in my case and quite possibly in yours. Good luck.

In my younger years, when I would compete on the road and strip, I discovered that a spinning tire does not move you forward at a fast rate. So stop spinning the tires and drive the car. Experience is wonderful; isn't it. .

Wow! Thanks for all the advice guys. Here's some of the information you wanted. 24v V6 yamaha motor for those of you that arn't that familiar with the older SHO motor, Supercharged (not stock) and what he claims to be a 50 shot of N2O. We didn't run at a strip just outside of where I work, I work nights so it's not busy at all. Any other races will be taken to the strip. Yeah the cars not pretty or cool by any means, in fact the owner calls the car birth control since you anin't getten none in it.

He had a pair of DRs on at work? And you were, let me guess, on streets? And if you're boiling 335s into 3rd, I'd bet they're pretty old and hard, huh?
Tires, bud, tires. Then head to your favorite track (or better yet, invite him to an autocross )
Have a good one,
Mike

I agree with most of what said here. Traction is the key,,that is the draw back for those of us who love good ole american muscle with hight HP motors.
Fortunatley, if you were to spray or supercharge your vette it will probably last a lot longer than a 6 or 4 cylinder car...that's one thing I don't like about imports,,sure they can get into the 10's or whatever, but most have big reliability issues and are constantly swapping heads,, stuff breaking, axle problems.. they just were not meant to handle that much power like the vette
