Default horn location

ummm... where are the horns located on an '81? Only the high-note works, kinda sounds like a "girlie-man" horn....my wife laughs at me when I use it!

The horns are behind my passenger front grille attached to a bracket that holds the grille on in my 75...should be in a similar location on your 81. Horns will be in the front somewhere for sure. And, stop being a girlie man.

I never looked, did not know there were 2 horns. how does that work? do you push on one side of the horn for high and the other for low or do they come on together? Come to think of it mine has sounded high for quite a while.

When you push the horn they both go off at the same time to deliver a combined note. There is no using one or the other.

Not sure when, but I do believe that somewhere in the mid to late sharks, 75ish to 82, GM used only one horn...not two. Chuck

Default Trouble shooting the horn?

As long as we're talking about the horn(s), I have a question for you guys. The horn on my '78 doesn't work at all! Any suggestions on a likely solution? I don't see any breaks in the wires.

On my 82 the horns are mounted, one in each side of the front fenders. Thats not where the shop manual or assembly manual says they are suppose to be. Could not be any harder to get at. Took out the side marker light to get my hand in there. Don't know which side is high tone and which is low.

my 73 has only one horn, were dual horns an option back then or was one "omitted" during the previous owners rebuild? On my 68 Firebird, dual horns only came with the deluxe trim package. Joe

Default there are 2 horns

the horns are the devil to get to....I had to remove the headlight encasement...that metal behind and beside the lights and under the top lid. Even then, it was a one arm deal. The horns have one wire but a ground for each one.; I would guess the one that is not working is not grounded. there are no adjustments. bad news: even with both working, it still sounds like a French Mercedes ...I installed another set of horns under the front and in the middle for easy access...I also put a siren there....worked nice in the National Caravan when we were trying to get through 5:00 Knoxville traffic...also when women use the stop light as an excuse for morning makeup sessions...heh, heh...
