Default Shrinkage?

Does new carpet shrink some after exposure to sun? I left some extra when I installed mine, didn’t want to cut it too short and then have it pull away for the sides.

Seems if anything it would stretch out, that is why they stretch home carpet when they lay it. But having a margin of error is always a good thing.
