Default Rear bearing replacement

Alrighty, this is an easy job. BUT, the rotors on the rearend of my vette have never been removed. Seriously, they're froze on tight. Can't even get this rotor off with a puller. I busted a hammer trying to break it free. Anyone else ever have this problem? I just want to finish replacing my wheel bearings, but this rotor is got me hung up!

I presume you drilled out the rivets first? If not, go back to this step and repeat the rest.

After removing the rivets, retract the parking brake shoes using the star adjuster.

Like 62fuelie said, the rivets are probably still in - Don't try to get the heads off, just use about a 5/8 drill and center it on the rivet head. Drill until you get about through the head, leaving a ring to fall off. You won't need to reuse them either...they're just for assembly.

even a 3/8" drill will get the heads off cleanly and use some oil to keep the tip of the bit cool

good thing the bearings are up for replacement as your hammer probably finished them off...

Read this link. It's from my web site and it tells you how to remove the bearing assemblies.

Do you actually know whats involved when replacing these bearings? The bearings have to be pressed on and off and you have to set end play to certain specs and have low run outs on your spindles and rotors.

Rivets? I haven't seen any rivets. Where might I find them?

I think they're in between the wheel studs. They're not the little ones you would normallly see, they're around 3/8" in diameter. I guess the easiest question is how many holes do you see in your rotor? Two means you're looking at the adjusting holes for the parking brake, >2 means the rivets have probably been drilled out.

Flat head rivets are in between the spindle studs.

Word of advise if you did not know abought the rivets then chances are you will not have a prayer in successfully replacing the bearings. Take it to a pro it may hurt forking out the cash but at least you will be driving the vette again.

Yeah, I've got good experience with similar bearing setups. The rest won't be a problem. I'd never seen rivets in a rotor before. Again, thanks a lot.
