Default Power Door Locks

I want to install power door locks in my '82. I know about the solenoids and mounting position. What I don't know is the wiring (to the door locks, etc.). Help.

Get a service and assembly manual if you don't have one and check the wiring diagrams. They should show you what you need.

I have that but it's not very clear on the wiring to the locks and relay.

In that case, I woul try to look at someone's car or one on a lot and see if it helps to clear it up. In your case, you probable don't have power windows either and may not have any wiring harness run into the door to start from.

I have power windows but the wiring harness is different that what comes with the power door lock version.
I may be out of luck on this one unless I take it to a pro and spend lots of $$$$$.

PCFRED,

Depending on how you want to install the locks, either manual switch or remote control, you will need two relays. (one to lock the other to unlock)

I bought a wireless remote alarm for about $50. used it to control the relays. Both solenoids need to be wired the same way ie: to lock or unlock together (or you need 4 solenoids to lock and unlock each).

Then you need either an alarm controller or manual switches to control the relays.

There are a couple of articles on the archives about this.

Hope it helps.

Terry
