I want to remove some of the angle of the steeroids ujoint and i was under the impression that this could be accomplished by collapsing the steering shaft towards the steering wheel.

Ususally, collapsing of the steering shaft means it collapses in case of an accident, thereby preventing the column shaft from impaling the driver. Maybe someone is talking about shortening the shaft.
