Default Camshaft break in lube

What type of grease/lube works best for breaking in a new cam?

You can get engine assembly lube at most any auto parts house.

I was under the impression that assembly lube wasn't sufficient for breaking in the cam and lifters.

Most cam manufacturers sell break-in lube. I used it and also primed the oil pump with an electric drill through the distributor hole before even thinking about starting my engine. Follow your cam manufacturer's break-in instructions for running the engine during the first few to few hundred miles. I have seen camshaft lobes severly worn from improper break-ins.

At every oil change I prefill the oil filter so that it is ready to go when the engine is started.

Good luck with the installation.
