Default Newbie!

Hellooooo

Yeah, i'm a newbie so i have all kinds of questions and probably need all kinds of help, but hey i made my dream come true and am driving my 1975 everday! I have always "ooooooo'ed" and "ahhhhhhh'ed" when i saw C3's on the road or at shows or on tv or anywhere, and have always wanted one. Well after going to college, getting a job where i lived on the road, and now finally settling down it was time to buy a car. Sure it wasnt the most practical thing to buy (being i live near Pittsburgh,Pa and it snows 4-5 months out of the year) but i made it happen. you only live once, right? so i did it.... 1975 Chevy Corvette. I love it. and i am proud to become part of the fraternity!!

anyways.... i have some questions. i hope someone can answer them.

1. what makes a "stingray" a stingray? is mine a stingray? how do i know?

2. the guy that sold me mine, told me it was 1 of 279 bc of the vinyl t tops. true or false? i dont eally care, just makes me curious. i cant find anything that confirms or denies this claim. i called chevy and they told me they would send me something that would tell me what my car looked like when it came off the line, and it isnt exactly that, but its close. it'll take alot of reading and comparing and configuring to find out using the VIN and their codes.

3. were all tank compacities 18gallons? i flipped through this book they sent me and thats what i think it said. mine fills up at about 10-11. i havent had it bone dry yet so i dont know an exact fillage amount.

well thats it for now. i'm sure i'll have more!!

thanks for all your help....

Dave

all i can do to help is to tell you that one day when i was driving my '78, i had the console removed and therefore no gas gauge... so i sorta ran out of gas but when i refilled it, it took about 22-24 gallons, even though the max. capacity for my model, according to manual, is lil more than 20.

Hey, glad to have you with us. Congratulations on your purchase. It sounds like you're pretty excited about it and that's great. I am but no means an expert on Corvette production but if it has "Stingray" emblems on the car then it's a Stingray. All Corvettes came with that badge in one form or another from 1963 to 1976.

I've never heard of vinyl t-tops as a factory option.

I'm pretty sure all tanks were 18 gal. in those years. My info says that the '78's and newer had 24 gallon tanks. I've never put more than 18 or 19 in mine but I have never run it dry either.

Congratulations on buying one of the slowest Corvettes ever made. I should know, I have a '75 also. The beauty of it though, is that common folk have no idea and it still looks awesome! As far as your questions:
1. It is a Stingray. Does yours not have the Stingray script on it anymore? It should be between the front fender and the door.

2. The site mentioned above does not list vinylt t-tops as an option but who knows. The convertibles had some vinyl covered hard tops.

3. Can't help you with tank size. I try not to look when filling up!

Again, congrats!!

Default stingray emblem

Well, mine doesnt have the badge on it, but it is pretty apparent that the previous own did some body work to the car and flared out the wheel wells a little. Therefore, i dont think it would still fit where it would have been....just behind the front wells. So i am thinking that it is a stingray, but the emblems have been removed.

Dave,

First, you need a place to put your pictures. I use photobucket.com but there are others. Set up an account (it's free). Upload your pictures. Log in to your account and you will see three menu bars below your pictures. One of them has the IMG tag on it. Use that address tag in your message after you hit the insert picture button and voila, there is your picture. There is a test forum on this site that you can use to try it out. Hope that helps.

1963 - 1967 Sting Ray (two words)

1969 - 1976 Stingray (one word)

1968, 1977 - 1982 no designation

I have never heard of Vinyl T-Tops as a factory or dealer option. There were, however, 279 Vinyl covered hard tops for the convertibles. Your sig doesn't indicate whether you have a coupe or a convertible. Also your sig says the coloe is Gray. There was no Gray in 1975; do you mean Sivler (code 13) or Stel Blue (code 27)?

Anyway, good luck and enjoy it.

Congrats on the successful picture posting! I like the paint job. Looks sweet. That car has definitely had some work done to it. I wouldn't worry about the guy saying it was all original. Do you like it? That's what counts!

Dave3, that's really nice looking. I like the paint, it has a lot of neat details. I had a set of wheels like those when I bought my Vette. So is the engine stock? What other details like transmission, rear gears, interior color, etc.?

as far as i know the engine is stock. its a 4 speed close ratio (whatever that means), L-48, red interior (compliments the gray nicely i think)

i dont know that much about engines, mechanics- which will prolly come back to kick my ***...or my pocket book, but i hope to learn stuff. when you say "rear gears"....what does that mean? how do i find out?

as far as the originality of the car, i really dont care what is original and what isnt. i love the look. i have always dreamed of owning a vette.... and now i do!

what do i need to look for? take pix of? help help help

Nice car mate, I especially like the look of the flared guards into the sills. My 82 has a similar paint scheme...

Nice looking car Dave3. The silver and gray combo looks really nice on your vette. I bet the red interior makes a nice look also. Congrats on the new car and look forward to helping you out sometime.
