Modified 44?
A corvette mechanic told me mine was a 36. Could he be mistaken?

I think that he is mistaken.. Don't think that they ever put a Dana 36 in a C3 Vette...

...in a C3 Vette;
I think some of the early C4s, 'specially with automatics, came with the Dana-36, and eventually, some of the HD C4s came with the Dana-44 carrier/ring-pinion gear-set.

I'm pretty-sure that all late ('80-'82) Corvettes came with Dana-44s

yep - I meant in C3's.(corrected my post) I know that they put the POS Dana 36 in AT C4's... After 3 - 4 passes with sticky tires - you can kiss the D36 goodbye... even with stock power...

You have, obviously, never felt, first-hand, the eye-ball flattening torque offered to the public, with an '84 Cross-Fire.....

ok.. It's tough to break anything with the stock power of a '84 ...
However- the TPI's from '85 - '91 had quite some torque.... enough to break D36's...
