FS: Escort 8500 and V1 Quick Connect Mirror Power Cords
I was given the go-ahead to sell 30 of these to the general forum public by the gracious owner of this site. This sale will last for 2 weeks (NOW EXPIRED).
These cords will be sold for $7.00 shipped within the US, and I accept paypal from accounts funded by bank accounts (no CC payments please). For references, please check out my Ebay Feedback.
For each cord sold, $1 will be donated to the forum's drive for St. Jude's Children Research fund. :flag
These cords will fit the Escort 8500 AND the Valentine 1 ( ), per the research from others in the forum. I have seen the diagram of the phone cord from a different DIY-er, and it matches the Escort's wiring.
The cords are about 8 inches long and allow you to put the detector close to the mirror. I can supply longer extended ones if you want to put the detector in the corner. Simply put the approximate desired length in your Paypal instructions along with your address.
This was designed and built around the mirror on my 2003 Z06, but I am guessing that the wiring is the same for other years. The install directions are:
1) Pull the mirror around so that you can access the power plug in the back (You must have the electrochromatic mirror, my test mirror is from an 03 Z06)
2) Push the longer wire pin connection from the cord into the back of the brown wire slot. (very end of harness, passenger end)
3) Push the shorter wire pin connection from the cord into the back of the orange wire slot. (second from the end, driver end)
It should look like this now, except you don't even have to unplug the harness...
4) Plug the phone plug into your detector and turn on the key!
The pins are bit thick but do put enough pressure to keep them mounted into the back of the mirror wiring harness. Very quick and easy, a 5 min. install at worst!

Jamm, yes, you can send me the payment. I will accept check or money order. Email me at res0nese@verizon.net and I will give you details.
Pete, I am not sure as I do not have access to a Valentine 1 and its power cord. If somebody could verify the polarity and the appropiate wires on the phone cord for the V1 against my pics, we should be able to read a consensus on this.
Maybe somebody has tried to use the Escort smart cord on the V1? That would definitely tell us if the cord would work!

I live in Ft Wayne IN, so if anybody has a V1 close to here, I would be willing to investigate into this. I might have to have 2 designs, but that is not a problem. Any takers? You would get a cord free as a result of the R&D!
Actually I really need the power cord to check against, the V1 would only be necessary if there were multiple +/- lines in the phone cord. Maybe somebody has one they can send me and I send back the original power cord and the new prototype mirror cord once I create it.

Jitters, you 'da man! Thanks for the info. Yes, I am only supplying power via the 2 inner wires on the phone connector, so if you are using the same power cord for both detectors, then mine will work as well. Excellent...

Canesfins, I sent you an email back. I measured it out to be about 25". This should be enough to run the phone cord up from the mirror to the headliner, along the headliner, and down to the corner.
The only thing is that you might want to work out the bends in the phone wire to make it easier to stick up into the headliner, you don't want to have to explain to passengers why you have a land line in your vette.

No problem! Got the payment and the message!
We are at 6 paid orders, and one pending. Not bad for 24 hours! If all these sell, you all will have contributed $30 to St. Judes. Not much but every bit certainly helps.

I'll take one too! Although I already have my detectors hard wired in, I'll use this in my girlfriends vette when we take it on trips.
Also like that some of the money is going to a good cause! Very idea!
PayPal is already sent!
Oh yea, I can also verify that the V1 & 8500 use the same type phone connector. I own both detectors and swap them out all the time using the same hard-wired connection.

The donation to St. Judes was Troy's idea, and it is indeed a very good one. I appreciate the opportunity he has given me to sell these at a reasonable price, and allow some of the proceeds to help a great cause. Just another reason this is one of the best forums out there!
I figure a status of my research and order filling is due:
I am making these up and sending them out as quickly as the orders come in, but if I make a mistake, please be patient with me. I will definitely deal any problems you have with these, as well. There should be none, however, as I am testing each and every one on my own mirror and detector. I used to make Xbox headset splitters a while back and had customers in 5 different countries, so this type of thing is right up my alley!
The only issue I have seen thus far is that you have to play a bit to get the pins to stay in the back of the harness, but by moving them around and pushing them in as far as you can, you eliminate this. Still faster than running wire around the headliner, down the pillar, and into the floor board, or soldering your own into your mirror wiring. I have found that flattening the ends of the hollow pins helps also, so I have started to do that with the latest ones going out.

The back of the wiring harness for the mirror has very large openings that lead right to the soldered connectors. My pins will push next and against those connections and not damage them. I have made a change to make the pins more flat, and those of you that receive the non-flattened ones might want to take a pliers and just press the tips of the pins to flatten them a bit. It makes it a little easier to insert into the back of the plug.
On a different note, the paypal account I supplied does NOT accept credit card payments. If you absolutely need to use a credit card for the 7.00 payment, email me and I can make other arrangements. I have had to deny 2 payments back, and cause inconvenience to those parties involved.
