Default Anyone use the Freeze 12 (Freeon 12 replacment)?

I hear this stuff works like Freeon 12 and is compatible with it and costs about $7 or $8 per can. Anyone have any experience with using it?

I just switched from R 134a to freeze 12. I really can't tell much difference if any. Both seem to work fine in my stock 69 system.

Freeze 12 is actually 80%R134a and 20% R142. They (freeze12 people) recmmend evacuating the system and then reservicing with Freeze 12. I don't think you can just put it in on top of R12. Check their web site.

You can 'top off' the R12 system with Freeze-12.
Like the previous post said Freeze12 is mainly R134A but the R142 is a R12 based compound and mixes with the lubrication oil thus not requiring the purging of the system and oil replacement. For best performance purging the system would be best, but just to get you through the summer purging may not be required.
Since the refrigerant will be mixture of the R134A & F12 compounds you may have to test what pressures are needed to maximize your cooling. Most refrigeration gage sets are calibrated for R134a or R12 not both.

In my old Datson that uses r12, I used Enviro Safe from www.Autorefrigerants.com I just added it the r-12 that was in the system and it seems to work fine. I am getting about 54 deg air out of the vents. The Datsun has apretty weak AC system so I am happy with that.

Default freeze 12

If your ac system is just low on R12 and you don't have a leak, would
recharge with R12. Since freeze 12 contains R134, and R134 is not
compatible with the oil in an R12 system I would not use it.
If the system is completely out of freon, then
would consider switching over to R134. You can still purchase R12
on e bay, and last time I needed some I purchased it thru refrigerant
sales.com. You need to be certified to purchase R12, but can obtain
an on line study guide and take an on line test. I did this and it was
not difficult.

If the system is running would also consider adding a 4 oz can of oil
charge. It contains 2 oz of oil and 2 oz of freon 12. The older
compressors all seem to sling some oil (look for oil on the inside of
the hood) and an oil charge is good insurance.

Thought there might have been a little rhubarb over that stuff in a post a couple of months ago. If I remember correctly it's not DOT approved because it contains propane or butane. Try a search in the archives. Refrigerants should NEVER be mixed.

Default Freeze 12

Two things I know of re: Freeze 12 (1) I bought a new condensor for my 86 IROC Camaro the instructions say that using any Freon ofher than R-12 or R-134 voids the warranty. (2) That Auto repair shops will not work on systems that have mixed Freon in the systems.

I have the EPA refrigerant chart.. No propane or butane in freeze 12, just R134a andR142B ... 80/20% There are some products that do have propane and butane though. Their site says it's approved, just not as an R12 drop in. As for gauges.... Pressure is pressure, it makes no difference which refrigerant make the pressure. 10psi is 10 psi. Service it to 26-28 on the low side @ 2K and warm.
