Default Vette ring and pinion type-12 bolt?

Hello, what kind of ring and pinion does the C3 have? Is it a '12 bolt' Chevy design? 3 and 4 series posi. carriers? Will a set of 12 bolt 3.55 gears from my Chevelle work in a Vette? Thanks, Tom

C3's use the eaton 10 bolt. The 2:73-3:370(3:73 & 3:90 -aftermarket) use the 3 series carrier. The 4:11,4:56 use the 4 series. So your gears will not work-UNLESS you mod the housing to fit a 12 Eaton carrier in it. It can be done and is done by Tom's Differentials in CA. Is it necessary for a street car-no. You can work a stock vette differential with some mods to handle 400-450 hp.
