Default First Road Trip in the '73 Vette

I just wanted to share my weekend experience with you all. After two years of hard work rebuilding her (interrupted by service in Iraq), I finally felt confident enough to take my car on a 600-mile roundtrip on I-64 to visit family in Louisville, KY. I got ~13.5 MPG (and 300 miles to the quart of oil!) out of my tired oil-burning 454 4-spd. It will need a rebuild some day, but I wanted to baseline it stock first. It was very hot out and the a/c could not really keep up with the heat - I sweated like a pig and had to stop every 100 miles for a drink of water and to stretch the legs! Who cares - the car made the trip fine (never getting over 210 degrees) and I got a lot of waves out on the interstate. It was fun to be out rumbling in my classic Vette.

Thanks to you all for the advice and support as I got my car road-worthy.

Sounds like had a good time. Gotta love making a road trip like that in an old vette. I don't know if they are ever gonna be cool enough with the AC though.

Anyway, to see your sig you just need to click on the Show your signature button just before you hit the reply button. If you want to modify your sig, look for the User CP button at the top of the page. It will allow you to modify your sig plus all of your data. Good luck with the vette.

Better than my 73 LS4. Couple of years ago drove her from central Texas to the Bloomington Gold show (2,000 miles total) and only got 13 mpg.

I am used to heat - and appreciate cool dry air even more these days! I checked my forum settings: "show sig" is checked, and yet I still have to "show sig" on each reply...?

I have more work to do on the Vette - but it's nice to know that it will make a trip... Maybe to Bowling Green in August?
