Default Gaskacinch on Carb Base Gaskets?

Do you use that gasket compound or equivalent on carb base gaskets and/or spacers as a measure to avoid vacuum leaks?

I only used it on the intake manifold... Don't think I would use it on the carb... I agree with previous... a real mess to remove.

You don't need any cement on the carb gasket. One thing you should think about is using a gasket that acts as an insulator. Edelbrock sells one for their carbs and recommends it to prevent gas from boiling due to the nature of the aluminum intake and aluminum carb. I installed it on mine and it only takes up about 3/8 inch of space. It's Edelbrock part number 9266. It's about $15. Here's a linki

Thanks everyone! Last desperate attempt to solve my idle/backfire problem before I flat-bed the car over to a GM dealer this week. I know a technician there who actually is familiar with SBCs of the 1960/1970s era and I trust him. I am tired of fooling with the car so now it will be pay-out time.

My last test was for a vacuum leak but there are none that I can detect. That was the reason for my question. A little goop is inexpensive. I do have the #9266 insulator installed as you can see in the pic.

In any case the shade-tree mechanic has run out of steam. So it's off to the professionals now. I will let everyone know how things turn out.

I will. I have a call out to the local Club of which I am a member. But they tend to be C4 and C5 people. We shall see. Thanks for your interest!

I use Permatex Holomar HPF. It's a non-drying gel and cleans up easily.
