Default Question on Gas tank install

Finally have some time to work on the Vette this afternoon. Plan to put in the new gas tank. What does everyone use for anti squeek strips? The ones I got wit the tank are just 15# tar paper. Any thing better i should be using or is this sufficient.

Thanks
Jim

I picked up some scrap tarpaper from a construction site and glued two pieces together then glued it to the frame. The foam piece that goes on the top edge was a PITA to keep in place while maneuvering the tank so I glued in place on the front top edge of the tank.

While I was out piddling on mine, I noticed a leak at the rear of mine. Seems like I may be joining in on the fuel tank swaparoo some time soon.

I used the replacement strips from one of the vendors. If I had it to do over I would have used tar paper.

The anti-squeak strips are basically tar paper, but I would not substitue foam or rubber. Foam or rubber will trap moisture, then there will be rust and leaks. My tank was riddled with holes because previous owner put in strips of rubber in place of correct strips.

Do these strips go on the straps, on the tank retainer brace and the top of the rear channel (or anything that touches the tank)?

Didn't use any anti squeek strips when I installed my new gas tank..... My car is too loud to hear it anyway
