Default Carburator hissing

I took my air cleaner off to adjust my idle a bit. Probably the first time I've had it off while the car was running. I noticed a hissing from the carb similar to a vaccuum leak. Is this normal? I don't know much about carbs so this could be a very dumb question for all i know (sorry). Also, what is a good idle speed? Probably depends on the carb model itself which I do not know, but I have it now at about 650-700. Thanks.

Unless you do have a vacuum leak, I suspect you are only hearing air being sucked pass your butterfly valves in the carb. This is perfectly normal.

you'd know if you had a leak that bad. Idle speed sounds about right. Unless you know what you are doing, I would leave it alone. You'll get your chance to ticker with that carb at some point anyway - trust me
