Default What is a good way to protect vinyl dash from cracking?

My dash pad is still in excellent condition, but I am worried that eventually it will develop cracks due to hardening. Is there a product that will keep it soft? I am looling for something that a member has tried and has proven successful.

DO NOT use armour all. on dashes.. It can actually promote cracking. There was even a bulletin years ago about this. I use (with excellent results and it smell good) sun tan oil with a 16 or higher SPF UV blocker number. Lotion will not work very good so you need to only use OIL. Lotion gets gummy in the grain and is hard to apply. I've use it for many years and never had a cracked dash.

Larry, you're talking about putting something like Coppertone on your car? Cool. Does it get tan lines? You'd think you lived in Florida or something.

I use a product made for vinyl spa covers. You can get it from any of the online spa supply stores. It's supposed to be the best you can get for keep vinyl from cracking, has a high SPF just like sunblock. Like Larry & Page said, it's the sunlight that kills the vinyl.

Use the best vinyl conditioner you can buy!!!!! Treat often and keep the dash out of the sun as much as possible. If you know it's going to bake for hours use a dash cover pad if possible.

Now as for conditioners I use a Marine Vinyl and leather conditioner from Nautical Ease. Most marine products SELL UV protection not SHINE. Nautical Ease sells UV protection, and keeping Vinyl Soft to Heck with shine.

IMHO any good Conditioner will work 303, mothers ect..... Just stay away from cheap products that say "I can shine better than you, I just can't stand, My dog is bigger than your dog ADVITESERS or PRODUCTS.

Sorry!!! the short answer would have been, I have used 303 and Nautical Ease for over 20 years on all my boats and cars and never had vinyl get hard and crack.

Actually I am a california transplant. I grew up in sothern cal. That's when I started to use suntan oil. Floriduh is thirty or fourty years behind on everything they do so it will take another 15 years to catch up.

carnuba wax, some kind of natural wax, probably bees wax and some plant wax goop. Works like magic. Also use it to make black plastic parts look like new.
