My car has basecoat, tintcoat, and clear coat. You can see it in my signature, or the "it's finished" (last page) of my website:

My own opinion: changing the color of your car detracts no more from the value then a repaint of the original color. Original is original, any repaint is not.

Mine was painted by Legendary Motor Cars where the show Dream Car Garage was/is made ( is it still on the air ? ). It is supposed to be Dark Claret not sure how exact the color is though.

NOTE: I've removed the pic, and replaced it with a link to it due to Moderator complaint it was exaggerated the forum's new horizontal scrolling problem.

I have base coat - clear coat on my '65 and love it. Really gives depth to the shine. Got the shark which was my first Corvette painted BC/CC, too.
BTW ... Several of you in this thread have signature pictures that are too large and are causing horizontal scrolling problems -- Corvette Fetish, GrandSportC3 and Motorhead, for sure. The old software included automatic re-sizing for sig pictures, so the problem wasn't readily apparent with the old software. It was a problem, however, because it still caused threads with oversize sig pictures to be slow-loading.

Bc/cc
If your vette has a lacquer finish on it now I have been told that in order to BC/CC it with the urethanes you must remove the lacquer from the car including any lacquer based glazing putties that might be there under the paint.
I personally prefer the Lacquer finish it is easy to repair scratches and if needed can be color matched pretty easily. My 76 still has the original lacquer and it has held up great over the years. Just my .02 cents worth.

Sorry guys, I would not DREAM of putting clear coat of anything over my paint....
just how many cars over the decades have we seen with that crap, and the peeling, yellowing, and cracking......tons of them....most of them GM, but certainly a LOT of others including all imports.....
so you really want to spend 4 grand on a paint job, and have it start screwing up after as little as 5 years????
thought not....
Be ME, it's a one shot paint....pick your urethane color and a one shot deal, case closed, and it's the most durable paint going....2 part catalysed if necessary...don't matter much far as I"m concerned....
keep in mindd 4-5 grand on a paint job, and having it screw up in 5 years is about 80 bux/month......kinds HIGH for a freaking PAINT job, NO????
why take the chance??? hell if GM/others cant get it right, you really think you/body shop CAN???
GENE
