C5 seats in a C3 how big a pain
Was at Budman's last night and he copped a single c5 seat to make an office chair and I really liked it and would be very interested in doing the conversion to my car. I was interested to see who has made the converison and how big a PITA it was. I have not measured anything but it looks like they would fit with some modifications. I know there are some folks here that have done and I wanted to get some input. Thanks

C5 seats are pretty tall compared to C3 and C4. I tried my darndest to make a set of C5 Sport Seats fit in my 71 vert and I could not get them low enough for my head (I'm 6'1") to clear the soft top cross bow.
Others have had better luck with t top cars.
You will probably have to modify or build new tracks.

What kinds of things did you try. I was thinking that you probably would have to use different tracks or cut down the mounts on the c5's or just build a new set of mounts. If they were hitting the bow then they may really be cramped in my coupe. I got to looking around and those c5 seats are pricey. C4's may be the way to go.

i got them in my73,i took the old seat tracks from my seats and mounted them to the c5 seats, they do sit a hair higher then stock, but im short and i like that,i had to drill 2 holes in the seat tracks to mount to the c5 seats and a washer betweenn them so i could use the factory seat adjuster. No power either manual seats.also i got my seats from the c5 section for 300 with one small rip on drivers bolster, took to shop had repaired for 50.00 so for 350 i got black c5 seats like brand new.

I did basically the same as pats above, I would never go back to the original seats, I have more legroom as I could adjust the rake further back. The one thing I had to do was swap my steering column for a tilt/tele, I am 6'1" as well and take only a few minutes to get used to the slightly higher seating position.

As far as the height goes, you could uncover the bottom cushion and shave some foam off the top. Then, put the cover back on and you have a lower seat with a bigger bolster area.

Try this:

I have the seats (both power) and am going to try and do this installation as Tyler explains - hopefully it will work
Unfortunately Im not going to be able to start this project until August...

Hey Doug!
My pair of C5 seats are still in a BR closet. I decided the best way to install my set, full power on both, was to cut and rebuild the floorboard lower. When I ever find time to rebuild my AC, I plan on gutting the interior and following Tyler's method to get them in and wired up for now.
If your body is still off, modifying the floorboard wouldn't be too hard. I plan on modifying the floorboard when my body is off.
And it looks like you might be done before i get started!

Thanks guys for the replys. I think this something that I will do. That's if I can find a good price on a set. I would be spending at least $250 refurbishing my original seats so it seems worth the xtra $$ to do the C5's. Just have to keep my eyes open for a "good" deal.
Glenn, not so sure that I will be done when you start. I got the chassis and engine done but the &*#&^)# body work is giving me fits. I need to post some pics but just have not had the time to do it.

Doug,
I posted a C-5 seats wanted in the parts area every month until the right deal appeared. You get alot of $800 plus offers, but every now and then you get some under $400. The black are in demand, so if your looking for doeskin or grey you will find a deal. Good luck.
