What Types Of Stereos do you put in a 72 vette
Hey Everyone
What Types Of Stereos do you put in a 72 vette ? I just bought my new 72 ( pictures this weekend ) and I dont like the stock radio. I dont want to cut the radio part of the dash. I also want to play CD's. What types of systems do you have. Do you have any pictures ?
Thanks
Mark

I have a Sony Explod. I did have to cut up dash bezel, But mine was and is still broke. But hey it works and I have a radio when I listen to it. That is not very much. I like the music of my pipes.

Mine did not come with a radio, and since I wanted to keep that look & went with a Kenwood Excellon unit. It has a black rotating face that most would not realize that I put a radio in there.

there are a couple of vette mags that have radios that fit in the factory holes .i found a small home electronics dealer that has several [new in box]of the old head units .but cutting the dash[for a cd player] is not that big of a deal, and getting a new plastic dash is not that much .the cd players have so much more power and cd is the way to go .

I installed a new plastic dash, in my 1977 Vette, that was pre-cut to fit my choice of CD receivers (Alpine for me). Hacking the original dash looks terrible because you must cut part of the tuner **** holes, but not fully remove them. The pre-cut plastic dash looks like the factory designed it that way. IM me for details.
I also placed Kenwood speakers in the kick panels to replace the dash speakers. All C3 Corvettes have space for these kick panel speakers, but only 68 & 69's offered them installed there from the factory. No pictures yet, but maybe after this weekend.

Mid America is selling replacement bezels complete with an in dash CD player so you don't have to cut anything. There's Kenwood, Blaupunkt, Sanyo, Pyle and Audiovox. Here'a a link to the page that shows them.

I have a Kenwood KNW801, it's an old "post" style that didn't require any cutting, has 4x25 watts, has pre outs and controls my 6 disc cd. You'll have to change your stock speakers (obviously) but that's true for any newer setup.

Cut the dash. I tried the Custom Autosound route and was not happy at all. I now have a Vette Specialties radio bezel kit and an Alpine CD/MP3/XM radio receiver and couldn't be happier with it. If you cut the dash, you can put in whatever stereo you want, and I will guarantee that even a 150 dollar stereo of any known brand is going to be better than the best custom fit one you get (for much more money).
