Default Please explain this!!!

Checked my gas mileage the other week after doing a poker run. Got 13.9 mpg which I didn't think was bad considering running a/c, driving like H---, some 80/90 mph runs, mountain twisties, you name it. Checked it today after driving the car like normal people should (no fun tho) and got 12.5mpg. What's up with that?? Keep in mind it's a stock L-48, 3:70 gears, automatic, except for intake, headers, duals which should help mpg. Was hoping to get at least 15 or 16 driving right!!

Guess I'll go back to driving like H---!!!

Thanks!!

Because you have a carburetor.
That's why.

Not sure why you've run up against different MPG figures. I used to get 18 MPG in my '74 L-48 daily driver when she was nicely tuned.

It's simple, its a Corvette and it doesn't like to be driven by normal people.

On the run, you were probably doing mostly highway driving? Not many starts and stop. Then later, you were probably doing city driving? A lot of stops and starts. That is why.

I checked the mpg on my 73 once- scared the crap out of me. So now I just drive it and fill it and drive it some more.

That's what I do. Fill up my car - watch the needle till it's almost on E and then go and re-fill. Drive more and then Fill again when needed.

Miles per gallon???? What's that... Heck, my wife still wants to know why the garage smells like gas when I back from a cruise... Told her it's called a carb! (grunt...grunt). Not the modern injection stuff the other two cars have... "smells like horsepower to me"...
