Default rear end and tranny change

i have a 410 rear end and all the axels and i was thinking about purchasing a standard tranny to put in my 77 corvette. my grandfather told me not to touch it and just leave it the way it is . he says it wouldnt be worth as much if i put a standard tranny and rearend in it. does it really matter cuz i want standard. Im in the middle of restoring it so it would be an easy switch.

depends if this is a "numbers matching" car that hasn't been modified or altered in any other way. It is quite a bit of work to change the rear, tranny, clutch/bellhousing, clutch pedal & linkage, etc. It's worth it if that's what you want, and you aren't screwing up an original car. I'm changing lots of stuff on mine, because it already had a replacement motor, wasn't anything special to begin with, and was very very rough.

A 77 will never be a collector's item, so don't worry about matching numbers.
