Default 80 Parklng Brake (As good as it gets?)

I had my parking brake rebuilt. When I picked it up it would not hold the car...slows down the roll on a slope but does not hold. Shop told me that it was as good as it gets for an 80 C3.

Is this true? If not, what should I do? All of the parts are new.

Thanks...

I don't buy it. My 68 flat out rolled with the parking brake but I put some washers/ shims to increase the tightness past the threaded area available and it holds on a hill, we have the same equipment by the way.

Thanks... I like the idea of using some washers to increase my ability to increnase the tension on the cable. Will give this a try the next time I'm under it.

Have you adjusted the shoes using the star wheel?
I finished mine and it is real tight. I also got a newer rear cable to go with it.

Good luck.

I knew about the star wheel, but which direction do you turn it to tighten?

The parking brake sucks I have fixed mine for the last time a few years ago, now I use a brick in driveway or keep it in gear.

I think there is a stop key on it which will only allow it to turn one way. My plan is to put the car up, engage the brake, turn the star until it is tight then release the brake and make certain that the pressure is off the rear tires.
