FAN SHROUD 454 BIG BLOCK
I just purchased a 1976 Chevy Corvette. The car was purchased at auction and came without a fan shroud. It was modified with a 454 big block engine. Does anyone have any idea where I could get a shroud that matches with this engine. I believe it still has original radiator. Do I take measurements. Need guidance. Thanks

You'll have to go with a 73-74 big block setup since the nose change in 73...should be readily available through major vendors. BTW...big blocks was not optional in 76 so you'll have to do some modifications.

Or you can go with Dewitts duel fan setup and he is not only a forum member but a sponser.

According to my GM Corvette parts catalogue, 73 to 75's BB and SB used the same shroud #339175. Early 76 used a 368671. But the rad. support was the same for 73 to early 76 #339176. Probably the only difference will be the mounting brackets. Thought this info might be useful if you want to find a used one. Just try to get the mounting brackets that go with it.

Hopefully the person who installed the 454 also put in a heavy-duty radiator. That would be one with 4 rows for cooling - or a modern (i.e. BeCool) setup for the big-block. Do you have a/c? Are you overheating now? Anyway - measure across the top of the radiator tank to learn the width if you are keeping the radiator you have and then call Dr Rebuild to get the proper shroud and his "heat-be-gone" rubber seal kit. My 1973 shroud does not protrude very far across the top and it also has a semi-circular shroud extension that bolts in across the bottom. You will need a 7-blade fan and proper fan clutch. You will have to pull the radiator to get the new shroud in - they slide in together. It may go easier if you also loosen up the radiator mounting frame so you can pull it forward. Enjoy!

A good reference I have often use is the Corvette World catalog, http://www.corvettedept.com (if you don't have a GM parts manual). They list the old GM part number in addition to other helpful information. They show the 339175 as a GM service replacement for years 70-75.
