It's Freaking hot in Texas someone lend a hand please.
So I went up to the local car store and bought a kit to convert the R-12 to 134, the "Retro Kit"
Tell me what else needs to be done so I can stop the niagra falls in my car.
Thanks,

i don't understand what you mean by that.
as far as the A/C goes, your pissing in the wind. They just don't work in the C3s. Rip it out take the tops off and put the windows down.

I dis-agree... My STOCK 69 A/C system works fine. We have many days here in the mid to upper ninties and it's humid. I drive my car daily and to work at least 3-4 days a week. Lots of traffic here too. I used R134A for several years and all I changed was the drier and put in ester oil. You just have to be carefull not to overcharge when using R134a. You also need to have all of the heat shield and insulators in place.
i don't understand what you mean by that.

wgc_3,
What is wrong with your system? Why the need to change it over? If the R12 has leaked out or you have blown some component then I can see the change over. But you will need to fix the system (leak, component, or ?) first. Then look at what refregrent you are going to use. If the system is right, and you should make it so before going any further, then I would go with R12. Yes it will cost more but it is a one time expense. The charge should last for years ( since the system was right to start with).

The stock system converted to R134a can cool really well if done right. I have no problems getting mid 40's out the vents on a 90+ day. With the small cockpit of the C3 and small greenhouse it cools off great.

I dis-agree... My STOCK 69 A/C system works fine.
my car never idled right and overheated on very hot days with the A/C on especially on the highway. It adds probably about 100 pounds to the front end.
it was a dunsel and had to go.

Larry B, I agree. I have a stock 69 using R-12 with no problems in cooling the cockpit or overheating the engine. The mpg drops dramatically, but, if you're worried about gas, you're driving the wrong car.

wgc_3...
You can say that again! I'm in Frisco and finally talked my wife into putting a window AC unit on my garage... managed to get the temp down to 78 in the garage.
Also, I am in the middle of an interrior refurb and have made an extra effort to insulate the inside of my 80 C3. Have read a lot of posts about different products... Texas heat and humidity will definitely put that to the test.

C3's do overheat and the A/C's don't work very good But only when things are wrong like missing seals, clogged radiators etc. I do agee that systems can be marginal. Knowing that then everything must be right. When Bubbba gets ahold of one forget it.

Try converting the stock fan to a Spal fan they really improve the cooling potential of the cars.
