Drop Base with Edelbrock Carb?
I need to know which drop base will work so that I can put a 3" air filter element on my car. I have a Performer Manifold and Edelbrock 1406 carb. I was looking in Jegs and they say that their drop bases won't fit on the Ebelbrock carb. Thanks for the help!

I had an Edel. 750 cfm. I had to use a 90 degree elbow fuel feed in place of the straight 3/8ths that came on the carb to clear a dropped base air cleaner.

I bought an Elite model from Edel and it has a decent drop. Their regular air cleaners have the same setup, maybe 3/4 drop and it clears everything. Seems to be made well. My 3" element rubs the hood insulation but fits. I'm looking into getting a 2.5" element to give me just a smidge more room. Good luck.

you need the 90 degree or banjo fitting to clear the fuel line, other than that its fine. Youll have to get the fitting through edlebrock since the thread size is somehting odd, i tried everything at local autoparts stores, but only standard sizes, not metric

The electric chokes on Edelbrocks and AFB's limit how much of a drop you can have. Carbs without electric chokes can use the lowest bases but your 1406 won't allow as much. Most guys I know with electric choke Edlelbrock's and limited hood clearance are using shorter filter elements to make them clear.

My Edelbrock drop cleaner has a bump out that clears the fuel line and the choke nestles under it fine. Like I said, with a 3" filter it rubs the insulation but seems ok. I'm still going to go a bit smaller though.

Purolator makes a 2 1/2 x 14. Probably find it in most auto stores. Be sure you have a minimum of 3/4 inch from the airhorn to the top lid or your air flow will choke.
One trick is using the K & N substack pressed through the base of the air clearner. This will raise it 1/2". Now using a 2 1/2" element you'll have plenty about the airhorn.

For the 14" 2.5" height try Purolator A60102
The K&N version of that at 2.5" height is E-3735 - took me 3 orders and returns to finally get that right...
