Default Reduced my coolant temp by 30 degrees today...

The mod took me 1 minute... I just removed the front "CORVETTE" license plate and now the car is running 30 degrees cooler.. The main problem was that my car isn't getting too much air through the radiator form the bottom because the headlight setup of my '68 is blocking some of the airflow from the bottom... Now I'm getting the air flow from the front and my car is running 30 degrees cooler... A week ago - I made the same trip that I made today. The air temperature last week was the same as today too.. I ran 215 degrees coolant temperature a week ago and the coolant temp didn't go above 185 degrees today on a very hot summer day

Sweet! Got to love the fact that it cost you nothing money wise.

That's the best part.. However- my '68 doesn't have the original grille below the license plate and therefore it doesn't look too good.. I might get the original grille.. That should make it look a lot better...

Olivier,

When you added "Water Wetter" did you see any difference? I added a bottle and nothing...my temp guage must be hosed.

Hi

That was step number 1 I did and yes, I agree, the temp dramatically went down during driving, but not during stop & go traffic.

I just lowered the front license plate to free the center grill air flow.

30 degrees cooler? You better increase the % antifreeze. Wouldn't want to crack the block!

Fortunately, they let us old cars dispense with the front plate in NJ a few years ago!

I like the look without the front plate to boot. I took mine off also and it will not be going back on just for this reason. Good job and nice tip Oliver.

Well - Water Wetter only works without antifreeze in the system.. If you run 50/50 antifreeze and water and you add water wetter - it's only going to make a 5 degrees difference which is hardly noticable... However - my coolant temperature went from 230 to 210 degrees when I added Water Wetter to pure water (without antifreeze). The more antifreeze is in the system the less difference Water Wetter will make..

I run 3 electric fans and always got better cooling in stop and go traffic... Now that the fans can pull air through the front - the cooing in stop and go traffic improved even more...

The car is running 185 right now when fully warmed up on a hot summer day... That's not too cold.... Anyway - when I'll receive my new engine - it's going to run hotter than my current one...

Your car still has enough air flow from the bottom but mine doesn't because of the tilt front design with the fixed headlights in the grille which block air flow from the bottom
