Default 1979 Carb Question Please Help

I have a 1979 L28 Automatic, I am going to change to carb and am going to get rid of the smog stuff, The question is What is the linkage above the throttle cable an my Q-Jet, it goes to a vaccume thingamagig???????
The carb I am looking at only has the hookup for the throttle linkage. Can I do away with it or is it for the transmission kick down???

Thanks in advance

Tom

Not to worry... it probably wouldn't have worked if your old '79 did have it.

I recently did a carb and intake swap on my 79 L-48 (check out my avatar), i put in a performer RPM intake with a BG Speed demon 650 cfm carb, this let me get rid of the hundreds of useless wires as well as the smog stuff, pretty much you can toss EVERYTHING, i did, the only thing that is the same with my new setup is the throttle cable and tranny kick down cable, and for that you can get brackets which will mount to your new manifold. If you need any help with the swap feel free to drop me an IM or email me .

Thanks Alot, My cruise does not work so I didn't even give it one thought..
Where did you get the aftermrkt kickdown cable, I will look at mine when I get off work, I think it is hiding in there somewhere??
Did you keep the factory cam or change it out with an aftermarket??

Im going to change the cam sometime next weekend, because the stock cam is pretty mild. I didnt get a new kick down cable, i used the stock one but got an aftermarket kick down bracket at my local pepboys (looks pretty cool too), feel free to ask any other question, i sure wish i had someone to help me before i began.

Thanks alot, I am headed out there this evening to start pulling it all apart.
What cam are you thinking about going with? There look like there are some good deals on ebay, I am pretty cheap and don't want to spen a lot of money on the engine, just want to pep it up a little.

I am sure I will have questions so stand by........no project goes like you want it to.

Thanks Tom

I already got a Summit cam and lifter kit for fairly cheap, i just didnt have time to install it yet, ill try to pull up the specs on it tommorow, its not too wild, but i hope it'll give me a nice loppy idle, the only thing im worried about is using the stock springs and rocker arms, but the guys at summit said it should be fine. Good luck on your project, i hope it turns out well for you, and an intake and carb swap is one of the best things you can do for your car, improves performance and made me unashamed of putting the hood up
