Default So, I wrote a book...and.....

I am hoping I can get it in print by September. This is my first venture with such a thing. The book was inspired by the building of my 69 Vette. Many things were going on in my life that merged together and caused me to dream up this adventure. I hope it is a story that both gear heads and average ordinary people (male and female) will enjoy.

I am simlpy nearing the end product of two years of work.

I purchased a URL for the book.
http://www.thekeytomyheart.net

I will keep you guys posted of the progress and hope to get your feedback if anybody is brave enough to give it a spin. Critisism is welcome, as this is my first shot at such a thing. I am working with a company called http://www.authorhouse.com

I'm familiar with Author House.
I guarantee your book will see print. And it's press run will be limited only by your checkbook.

That's rather cynical. I admire the author for trying to get his thoughts public. And I wish him well.

Thats one awsome cover!! Sounds like a good book. Judging from the cover, I assume that the book is about your love for your Corvette and your wife? I think I just may get it when it prints.

No, no, no. I didn't mean anything disparaging by that. It was just a sort of, "In case you didn't know..." sort of post. I mean, hell, he's written one more book than I have.

chris, you bet if i EVER see your book at a bookstore or anywhere else for that matter, i'll buy it.
make sure there are plenty of color pics of your car in there too! can't forget the eyecandy.
that is quite possibly the most beautiful example of a corvette ever.

Congratulations on a real accomplishment. Most people have no idea, how hard it is to sit down and write a book. Maybe one of these days I'll get enough guts to attempt to write one. Let us know when it's available!!

It's true, it's hard to make a self-published book sell, but it's not impossible. I've known several writers who've managed to do it, but it takes a lot of work. The writers that are successful with self-publishing generally go to lots of places where their subject will go over well, and promote and sell the book (car shows and clubs, for instance, for this book). They also do a lot of talking to book store managers and learn all sorts of little helpful tricks (one of my favorites is giving a reading or a booksigning and signing ALL of the books the store orders, not just ones that sell, because they can't return signed books to the publisher). Posting about the book here is an excellent first promotional step--I'll bet a lot of us will buy it when it comes out, just 'cause of that pretty shark on the cover. If I were you, I'd see if I could buy a banner ad of some sort on this forum when the book comes out.

I'm not just gassing, BTW; I know a little about this. I've published four books myself, though none self-published, and I direct a university creative writing program. Good luck with your book!

JB

Thanks guys!

Actually when I first started writing this, I did so with no set goal.

I have enjoyed putting the thoughts on paper and sharing it with some of my friends and family.

In anything thing you do, you must have an idea of what success looks like. My idea of success at first was simply to finish the story. My current idea of success is to see the final hard copy of the actual book.

There is no profit incentive. In fact, as it was noted earlier, my checkbook is making this happen. I don't expect to even break even, and that's okay. My success model is not based on the cash flow, but the fun factor.

It would be cool to get permission to offer it through the major automotive forums once it is availalbe.

It will be available through Amazon.com, so I don't know how that will work in conjunction with places like this. I will have to explore that when the time comes.

Oh..Vettes at the Village? Just got a top 40 award. In all honesty, I don't think 75% of the people even knew I was there as they parked us way off the main circle on the back side of the movie theater over hang. No worries, it was fun to go hang out.
