Default Going Carb Spacer Testing at the Track Tommarow

Well, the topic about says it all...but. I thought this would be a fun oppurtunity to do some testing at the track that some people may be interested. Over the next couple months I will be doing some things to make the car more consistent and reliable (drag vette setup). And am interested in testing some things that people may be interested in.

It may seem a bit far fetched, but if anyone was curious as to how a part would work I would be interested in trying it and covering shipping to and from. I am going to be ordering an HVH "Super Sucker" spacer in the next couple weeks.

One idea I had that sounded fun would be to try a few different intakes, RPM, Wieand, whatever.

Could be a major PITA, but at the very least I'll keep updates on whatever bolt-ons I try and report back.

Wish me luck and no broken parts!

I have a carb spacer in the basement waiting to go in. Same idea, I wanted to just test it out at the track and see if it makes any difference. I think I am going to rejet the Qjet one size richer at the same time. Hood clearance is going to be a problem for me. I finally found a slightly thinner air cleaner but now the little screen (spark arrester) on the air cleaner base hits the lid....

I am going to try to test the following:

No Spacer
1/2" Open Spacer
1/2" Four Hole Spacer
1" Open Spacer
2" Open Spacer
2" Four Hole Spacer

I will report back Sunday.

The HVH Spacer is $120, but supposed to be the "best."
We'll see.

EDIT: As for hood space I can not use an aircleaner element with the 2" spacer, so all tests will be done without an aircleaner.

Do you have sway bars on your car?

I would love to hear how the car reacts to removal of the sway bars.

My car seemed to be worse without the front sway bar, but I'm not consistent enough to be sure about the results since they fly in the face of standard results.

I only have a front sway bar. I think for next week I may try a set of Canton 90/10 front drag shocks.

I will probably raise the rear end about 1" tommarow.

YOU ARE CRRRRAZY!!

so can you just unbolt the carb and slip out/in the spacer? you don't have to unscrew the fuel line or mess with the accelerator linkage do you? I don't like to get into too much "tuning" at the strip. I have taken my timing light a few times fully intending to try different things...... but then never did. Only thing I have varied at the track has been tire pressure!

Maybe, but I feel more CURIOUS!

Its an easy affair. One AN fitting and the carb comes off with the fuel log, the throttle linkage is just as simple. 5 minute swap, max.

I have to let the tranny cool between runs so I might as well be doing something. I think the 2" four hole may be the best as I don't have the gear to take advantage of the upper rpm power this motor makes.

Getting everything squared away as we speak, get a good nights sleep and its off to the races!

I'd be curious to see the RPM setup. I think we're faily close in our engines, and from what all the rags say the RPM only costs a few HP over 5500 rpms, but gains major torque below.I'd also be interested to see how you launch with a 4000 rpm stall, since I run only 2200 and there's no way I can lay into it from a dead stop on street tires.

Keep us posted for sure.
