Starter problems
OK A typical summer problem.I have headers on my "72" small block. When it is real HOT out "like it has been lately" After I get done driving the vette and let it sit maybe 15 min. the starter becomes heat soaked and will not start. When I push in the clutch and try to start it nothing happens and the AMP meter peg's. After I let the vette sit and cool, it will finally start with no problems. Does this sound like A starter or solenoid problem. I put an aspestos heat blanket on and that did not help. I would like to go with an remote mounted solenoid but hear mixed opinions. Is A mini starter the only solution?? Anybody try A remote solenoid? Thank You in advance.

Solutions:
1) Heat Blanket done
2) put new high heat spring in solenoid
3) Remote solenoid
4) Mini Starter
These are the things I did. They are listed from least to most expensive.
I also went another step and upgraded my battery to an Optima.

Constructed a sheetmetal shield between the starter and header pipes. Always cranks when hot. Charles

I had a starting problem - after cleaning and tightening electrical connections, new battery, rebuilt starter and metal heat shield I still had a 'heat soak' problem.
The solution was to clean a single electrical connector. This connector was in the path of the wire travelling between the solenoid and the clutch & keyswitch. As wire heats up its electrical resistance increases. I guess that the rust on this one connector was not enough resistance to restrict current flow when the wire was cold but add the resistance of the rust plus the resistance of hot wire BAM no go.

Had exact same problem. Even a "new" starter with blanket didn't work. A friend told me to cut 1.5 coils off the exisiting solinoid spring and TA-DAAA no more problems.
