Default Water pump plug...

On the top of my water pump on my 81 there is a plug... I was wondering if I could remove this plug and put a water temp gauge in its place? Is there a gauge that will just screw in there that has a sensor on, or in the gauge itself? I do not want to run any wires or lines. Thanks for any help.

That would only tell you the inlet water temp. I do not know of any water temp gages that are a direct screw in to the block style.

That WP plug is for a bypass hose to allow fast heat-up of block as a recirc path while T-stat is still closed. Never heard of placing a temp sensor there and never thought about it?
On my Edelbrock intake I have 2 plugs behind/block side T-stat for temp - one each side of T-stat. Also each cylinder head has a plug for temp sensor - under exh port and between #1 & #3 cyl drivers side also under exh port and between #6 & #8 pass side.
Hope this helps. cardo0
