Default Locked hood 68-69

Well I removed, sand blasted, polished and reinstalled the whole lock/ latch and spring sytem on the car and as I thought I got locked out of the hood. Asked advice from the forum and a guy told me step by step. Well on his 76 it's easy with a flat tip S.D. find the grove push past the weatherstrip and walah. On 68's-69's you need to remove the vent and then there went all my shims rolling down the frame spent 4 hours lining and getting it back together at the right height. How'd I get the hood open? Cut off broom handle in thru the second fender gill and pop hit the lever, took about 20 seconds!! So pissed should have thought it out before taking the advice.

Well at least the stuff's back on working fine and looking real pretty and shiny.

Sounds like a great new trick, good to know. Hadn't heard that one.

I'm always wondering when my cable might go and thought I would have to do the SD trick. Didnt think you really had to take wiper grill off, just open it?

I had this problem with my 71. I was adjusting the hood, and it go stuck After giving up after about 5 hrs, i just went to bed. Next day i went out and tried the screw driver trick after removing my wiper cover and nothing worked........ I got pissed, threw the screw driver down, and just yanked up on the side of the hood that was latched.... and up she came!!!! Oh well!

My cable broke at the latch. I took off the bottom splash gaurd and was able to reach my arm up far enough to push on the latch.. Took about fifteen minutes total. I'm only 5'8" so my arms aren't real long. It is a strectch but I did it.

Nope becuase the botom of the grill forces your screwdrive down below the hood line and you can't get the screwdriver to go under the hood. The broom stick method works fast and with a 70-82 I think the removal of the splash guard would work as well using the broomstick or long pole.

Thanks for the tip! I read it that you went thru the driverside grill opening? My passengerside got stuck when I was lining everything up and I had to go thru the little hole on the cowl to get to the latch to release. It was a pain in the azz.
