Re: 1976 Hood Insulation Blanket (allstarcmdr)
I could see other material being suitable and functional, but the "correct" insulation blanket is press-molded to fit the curves and contour of the hood. Chances are very good that if you don't have to pay an arm and leg to have it shipped it won't be correct, as they can not be folded or rolled.

Go to photo bucket and set up an account It's free then add your photos to your acount then I just cut and paste the IMG line into this reply window.
Their site even reduces the photo file size for you.

Anyone know where I can purchase a black hood insulation blanket for a 76 Corvette?

Re: 1976 Hood Insulation Blanket (1FUNVET)
I have a question about this insulation on e-bay listed above. Aren't the blankets supposed to be black? Is this someone making a homemade insulation blanket and selling on e-bay? It sure doesn't look black or formed in the pic. It looks like someone cut some generic insulation to a pattern. What you all think? I don't want to buy something I can cut out. I really would like an original type. Otherwise I'd rather leave it out.
Thanks,
Loren
BTW: I did ask the seller the same question, but wanted a third party oppinion, as I don't have one at all to compare, it was missing when I bought my vette.

They are not black, but kind of a very dark color with a greenish tint, formed and press molded at the edges and other key areas to provide clearance. Nothing at all like the duct liner shown above but it might function. I'll try to get a photo of mine up this weekend.

I think I am going to try cutting my own, but use a metallic type isulator... Simply for looks. Any one tried this? Will it radiate too much heat back to the motor? let me know...

Re: 1976 Hood Insulation Blanket (ElCid79)
I got a non-formed piece from corvette central. The shape is correct but not formed. I just bought a pack of the clips and was told to add a few in strategic places to hold it tightly where I wanted. I was also told the greenish tint would go away pretty quickly with use.
My main question now is, what if I leave it off completely like I see at some car shows? My car is a daily driver. Will the engine heat really blister the hood paint or glass? I assume you need this or else everyone would just toss it?

My OEM one is yellow and thick. Very dirty but at least I know what I need to replace it with. Mine is a '76 also. I've thought agbout pulling it out and just painting it black.
