Default Rear Bumper Emblem Removal

How in the world do I get the rear bumper emblem off my 76 vette without destroying it, so I can sand the bumper to get ready to paint ?

Is it bolted on? If it is glued, Id delicately pry it off with a thin putty knife.

Haven't tried it yet, but read about it here on the forum and it looks like it will work - the metal bracket right behind the CORVETTE emblem needs to be removed. It's held on by three or four bolts, once it's out of the way the nuts on the back of the emblem should be accessible.

I recently replaced the rear emblem on my 82. It was glued on at some point but I attached the new one with acorn nuts that slide on and bite to hold it. They don't screw on.

I laid down and reached up from underneath and could reach the back side where the tabs stuck through.

I will get under the car tomorrow and see if I can locate the tabs or the plate to remove to gain access

There's a plate behind the '75 letters which prevent you getting your hands on the retainers. Three bolts, one obvious and two that are pain to get at, but patience will pay off. A small air-ratchet works great.

I got the script off the rear bumper by removing the aluminum plate that is bolted with three 3/8" bolts to the chassis and covers up the inside of the bumper and allows access to the backside of the script. The plate also holds the wiring harness in place so had to pop the plastic clips out that secured the harness to it. Then slid the plate over and removed the three speednuts that held the script in place. Sounds like a lot but was real easy whole thing took about 15 minutes to do. Thanks for the tips from everyone. By the way I did not have to drop the spare tire carrier.

I am impressed that you didn't have the studs break off while removing the speed nuts. Good job!
