1969 Fake tripower corvettes at bloomington dealer-cnv- has them now!
I was at bloomington gold and watched two 69 tripowers get bought at the auction. One was a yellow 400 hp convertible and the other was a 69 L89 coupe. Both were originally small block cars. In fact I asked a few of the judges to take a look at the cars just to show them the bs. CNV corvettes bought them both! They are now advertised on their website as legit cars. I couldn't believe that so many fake care rolled throught the auction and brought crazy money. For example the yellow 69 400hp car that cnv bought was orig a green car and the second fuel line was cut back by the frame and plugged off so it looked like a single fuel line car. The Gold L-89 car had not TI box, No rear swaybar, wrong fuel line, and to top it of it was hit so bad on the drivers side at some point that the a frame is crooked and nearly hitting the fuel pump! Now it is advertised for 44.5K. Bloomington gold should do more to police this. I know the difference but most the buyers probably have no clue that they are getting screwed. Just needed to vent!

I hate it when i read posts of this nature
You start to question the originality of you own beast
Not that i'm to fussed, Insurance Co has covered me for $75k sight-unseen but with an appraisal from a reputable Corvette\trader\converter with 30 years experience.
But it would be still nice to know for sure...and no, i don't have a TS.

That is why "REAL" documentation is so valuable on any Corvette,
especially a rare-optioned or rare-motored one........
I have never bought an un-documented Corvette....

There are so many people "faking" trim tags, protecto plates, build sheets, etc right now I'd almost be afraid to purchase a high dollar high horse car. I too saw some very things that I'd question on some of the cars I looked at. And I would'nt blame it all on various dealers as these cars get traded into these dealers like this and they turn around and resell them the same way that they bought them.

Mine still has the "original"? engine option sticker(on power booster hump), but how do you tell if their real?
Mine's shrunk a fair bit
I can take a pic and mail it if someone thinks that they might know the difference between real and fake....can you fake 35 years of shrink?

When you said that it was CnV that bought them you said it all those guys are the worlds bigest crooks. I bought a 79 for my wife from them. There were several items on the car that needed repair. They were suppose to make the repairs prior to shipping the car they did not. I wouldn't give them the time of day. There bad for the Corvette business.

I am amazed that someone smart enough to be able to afford a $44000.00 Corvette (toy) is stupid enough to NOT do his homework and get SCREWED!! The truly amazing part is that it happens EVERY DAY... ..redvetracr

Thanks for posting this, I get SICK of seeing "clones" passed off as the real deal. I am in good shape on my 72 LT-1, it has the engine code in the VIN# and I have the tank sheet. You are my kind of guy, you know your Vettes!

shark food: How do you know they were originally smallblock cars and not L36 bigblocks? The L68 is basically the same engine with a tripower intake. Still a fake, I am just curious if you saw additional evidence pointing towards smallblock. Also, did the "green" car have its original trimtag with the code for green? I agree 100% that Bloomington should police their own auction because crap like this taints their event. I am already very cynical about the Bloomington awards because it costs so much to have cars judged there.

The item that usually gives this away is the tachometer. For a 69 the samll black redlines are 5300(300hp) and 6000(350hp). The 390 and 400 horse 427's are 5600 and the L71/L89/L88's are 6500.
Other clues are the rear sway bar and HD caps on the diff side yokes. As stated the tripowers(and L88) did not use a fuel return line.
That's awful about these clone cars.

Let's see,
CNV horror stories heard: 25+
CNV satisfied customer stories heard: 2 or 3
Even though CNV is only a few miles from me locally, chances are I'd still go all the way to Roger's Corvettes in Florida for a good second hand Vette before I'd trust CNV. CNV has a poor rep here in the local Corvette community. I've never heard a bad story about Roger's.

Well to start with the l89 car had no rear sway bar and was not drilled in the frame for one. The tach on the tripower was for a 350hp car. Also there was a 69 green l89 coupe that was in there feature car auction. It had a 350 hp tach, two fuel lines and no saled at 50K the owner said it was a rare car and he paid much more than that. These are just a few of them. Actually cnv bought david cranes 67 435 car and now they have it for sale at over 90K. This car is an original car with documentation. So either they didn't know that the other cars were fake, or they didn't care because they are planning on making money on them.

How do you know CNV did not what they are buying. Maybe they know these are not originale cars and intend to "rip off" the next guy. I think it's the buyers job to "KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BUYING".
I'm sorry, (unfortunately) I automaticly think the seller is trying to "get over" on me and I have to be knoweldgable on to what I am buying.
Hey my Vette is "NCRS" (all depends on what you think that stands for )
