my shifter locked up in first gear...my car guy told me to reach underneath and flip back one of the rods under the shifter...i found three rods under there and was able to move the back two....now whenever i start up, i cant go in any gear though the engine starts to die like it's trying to get in gear....which rod should i try to move? ('69 by the way)

Welcome to the greasey hand shifter club. This used to happen to me
years ago and always at the worst time. I think I just lined them up in the center detent. Rebuild the shifter or get a Hurst.
