15 x 10's under stock fenders?
I know I have seen this topic a few times but the search isn't working for me. I have a line on 15 x 10 rims but I don't want to do flares (yet) and for sure I don't want to change the trailing arms.
If I keep civil tires on them (like my 255/60/15's) will they fit? Will those tires fit the rims at all?
I guess it depends on the backspacing and how much tire will be under and how much will be inside right?
Ideas? A bargain is only a bargain if you can use it!
(1977 L82 BTW)

I'd say no. I have 10" wide rear wheels on my 79 and the fit there but just. I'm using 5.5" backspacing and it is very close to everything, but still no rubbing what so ever. I'm using offset trailing arms, which allows me to use such an extreme BS. My wheels are also 20" in diameter and they are so big that everything fits in just fine, I could see the spring poking on the tires on 15" application.

i say yes.
take a look at my picts on cardomain. 15X10 rallys on back with 5" backspace with 295/50/15 TAs
P.S. stock trailing arms.
of course the e-brake braket has to be relocated and you need a relatively flat spring so that the end of the spring rides within the rim NOT even with the tire.

Depends on your spring situation and the backspace. I have 15X9 American Racing wheels with 255-60/15s (not sure of the BS) and the end of the fiberglass spring hits the sidewall under hard loading. I had to raise the rear end up to avoid it.

I'm not going to mess with it. Even if I get the rear ok there is no way the front will ever work. I did some quick checks under the car and I can see tons of issues. I might be able to fudge it like some have said but it just isn't worth it to me right now unless it was an easy fit. Thanks

I was planning on installing my 15" x 10" (3.5" back-spacing) ProStars on my '80 tomorrow afternoon with G60 "AMERICAN RACER" tires (approx 26" tall).....

I've got a pair of 15X10" -- 5" back spacing Rallye wheels - after posting here I decided to use them on my '67 ElCamino -- I do however have a pair of 15X10.5's coming from a guy on ebay ----- these were widened Rallyes with all the additional width on the outboard side --- so they still have a stock 4" back spacing --- not sure what sized tire to use -- I'll probably start with a 275-60 -- if they don't work on the Vette I'll use them on the elco.

With the 275/60/15's you might run into the same problem I ran into. The wheel will hit the fender if the suspsion is compressed fully. I'm in the process of spacing the bump stops down 1" to keep the tire from hitting the fender. Then I'll worry about fixing my busted fender.

With the 275/60/15's
It boggles the mind why someone would run a 275 or 295 60 instead of a 50.
I guess some like the tractor look.

I had no trouble with the tire/wheel touching anything; the trailing arm, E-brake cable/bracketry, etc.
HOWEVER.....
the 'inside' of the spokes rub (actually, BIND!!!) against the caliper, and the car couldn't budge.
With the wheel/tire combination, the Vette looked pretty ridiculous, in a cool, '70s, Joe-Dirt-in-a-Vette kind-of way.
I guess I wasn't much help...

In that case I guess I like tractors
My fronts (which I had before I put the drag radials on) are 245/60/15, which is pretty regular size here on the forum. If I went to the 50 series rears my front tires would be taller than my rears. I guess you like the low rider look then.

Very 60's era look.
Although, I think big tall tires like that, make the
vette's look smaller and fatter, IMHO.
Me, I like the longer sleek look, with shorter tires.
Hey Short, what parking lot is that?

I like the more porportioned look of the 295/50s On 15X10s in back and stock 15X8 in front.
and they don't rub the fender when you beat on the car or stick out and give you that redneck look.
I did have to massage the front fenders to fit them.
i like the look of your 245/60s though. I just don't like big huge 60s.

hang out at the hooters on 45at Nasa. but never
see it LOL

Well the pictures were from a car show, not a regular hangout. There are a couple that I've seen posted in the Southwest section. I think there's one at I-10 and Hwy 6 in the Sam's parking lot on Saturday nights. Another somewhere at I-10 west and the beltway. There's also one of the monthly club meetings at the Wings n More on 290. I haven't really attended any of these so you'd be best searching or asking in the Southwest section.

turtlevette --- I'm not after that "John Deere" look and certainly don't want a cracked anything --- do you think 295-50's on the 15X10.5's with 4" back spacing will give the same look as your and be faorly safe from fender clearance standpoint?

my rallys are 10" wide not 10.5 and you gotta have 5" of backspace. Yours are gonna stick out a lot with 4" backspace and YES you will crack your fender.

I do also have a set of of 15X10's with 5" bs. --- If I understand correctly the spring will need to fit in the wheels for this combo to work?
I'll have to check, my rear spring is fiberglass -- but I think might hang a bit to low.
thanks
Ronnie
